Rev. James Douglas Charity, Jr. invited me and my girlfriends to dine at Ms Sarah's Place during the Mother's Day weekend. The food was freshly cooked and it was delicious to a fault. It was the best inexpensive meal that we/ve had while visiting Williamsburg, VA. The local people were very friendly and we felt right at home. I look forward to a return visit to Ms. Sarah's Place. I do highly recommend Ms. Sarah's Place to others who are visiting in the surrounding areas of Williamsburg, VA and Surry, VA.

My wife and I recently saw an ad for Ms. Sarah's Place in the Prince George Journal and decided to check it out on a Sunday afternoon. The drive from our home in Prince George to this tucked away restaurant in Surry was very relaxing and enjoyable. From the minute we stepped inside and smelled the wonderful aroma we knew we would be enjoying our meal. Everyone who works at this restaurant is family and they made us feel like part of theirs. We had the shrimp basket and the seafood platter and added on a few things like the fried crab and the barbeque. I think the crab cake that was on the seafood platter was my absolute favorite! Everything was seasoned just right and was cooked to perfection. You can tell that this family takes pride in the food that they serve and the atmosphere they are offering. The place was clean and everyone was so friendly. We found out that Uncle Alfred makes the BBQ himself. We want to come back and meet him!! From Lynette, Steve, Aunt Kathy and Lucille - we had a great time on a Sunday afternoon having a delicious meal at Ms. Sarah's Place. The restaurant is tiny but we were told that in the summer they have picnic tables outside for extra seating. Before we left we took this photo outside under their sign. We will definitely return and look forward to eating outside when it warms up.

While visiting Williamsburg, take the free Jamestown/Surry ferry across the James River. Visit the Chippokes Plantation and State Park nearby. This is a great place to take a swim and search for fossils along the shore. Chippokes is one of the oldest continuously operating farms in the USA. The scenery is striking. It is a quiet and relaxing alternative to all of the tourist hoopla around Williamsburg. Ms Sarah's is out in the country east of Surry.

Afterwards, in the late afternoon, take in dinner at Ms Sarah's. Their hours are unpredictable. We checked it out three times before finding them open. They are open for dinner and then only late in the week. Call first.

This is inexpensive. The dining room is just a few plain tables and chairs in an undecorated tiny area. Most of the building is taken up by the kitchen. They use it to its best advantage. This is where you can order real down-home southern food. Many items are fried, but many are not. They have barbecue, fried seafood, hush puppies, and loads of typical regional foods. This is everything that the Williamsburg restaurants are not and that is mostly good.

Of all the places we ate on our vacation in Virginia and DC, this was perhaps the most interesting and certainly the best quality and value for the dollar.
