Design is accented with American lumber and a turn of the century mural discovered during renovations for the restaurant.

Suffolk’s slogan is “Surprising Suffolk,” and nothing could be more surprising in a town the size of Suffolk than Harper’s Table. I am not a gourmet cook by any means, and I’m not very adventurous when it comes to trying unusual foods, but I’m a huge fan of shows like Iron Chef and Top Chef. Dining at Harper’s Table gives me the kind of experience I imagine patrons of those top chefs must enjoy. There is a casual elegance at Harper’s which is in a historic downtown building. Hamburger and steak appear comfortably on the same menu. But be warned, the portions are not huge American-size portions; they are “right-size.” Appetizers are worth the add-on, especially the pork belly biscuit. There is a full bar, and sometimes there is a featured signature drink according to the season. Service is impeccable. Harper himself is hands-on. When he can get out of the kitchen, he likes to make the rounds to visit at each table.

I had the ribs. They were excellent. The bacon tacos were great too!
