We just got back from Fairy Stone yesterday after a 4 night stay....it was only supposed to be 3 nights, but we were having so much fun we stayed an extra night. We have a pop up camper, 3 children (6, 5, & 2) and 2 dogs. It was a great experience for everyone!

Pros:
The park is beautiful....green and very shaded
The lake has a nice sandy beach and fun "toys" for the kiddos
There is wi-fi at the lake
There is a snack shack at the lake and a small "store" near the campground
Firewood is available at $4 per bundle....you can also buy ice!!
Bath houses at campground were very clean and always stocked
Bathrooms at lake very generally clean & there are lots of changing stalls
Electric hook ups were great (worked as they should)
Rangers were nice and friendly
Quiet campground....no loud music, no riff raff
Blow ups, water noodles and floatys are allowed at lake....sun canopies and umbrellas as well

Cons:
Campsites are VERY close together
Some of the sites have a steep edge (cliff) right next to it
Only one bathhouse at the campground....if it's a busy weekend it can be hard to shower
LOTS of bugs (including ticks)! We have many bites!! Bring bug spray.
Drinking water tasted bad....either bring something to filter it or bring bottled water.
RACCOONS! They visited us every night and got very close! Expect to put anything edible away every night....one stole an entire bag of marshmallows 5 feet away from us!
Campground is not great for bike riding....steep hills
Lake water is murky and stained our bathing suits brown and it was very cold in early June
Not much nearby.....plan on staying at the park
NO cell service
wi-fi was spotty at the beach

Overall, all the pros outweigh the cons. Just make sure that you plan ahead and are aware of some of the cons. We had a great time and plan to visit again in the future!!

If you need a rest from phones, TV, computers, etc, this is the place to come. There is no phone or internet connection here, so at first you miss it and then you realize how nice it is not to have it. Instead of watching TV, you go for a walk and watch the deer feeding on the grass. Instead of texting on the phone you carry on a real conversation with who you are with. Instead on surfing on the internet you sit in the rocker on the front porch of your cabin and read a good book. A great place for family vacation, beach, trails, boating, and near by, blue ridge parkway. If you are staying the week great day trips is Floyd, the old school house fabric store, and go hear some bluegrass music and have dinner at many places there. At meadows on dan go to marby mill and nancy's chocolate factory. There are some wineries close by too.

Very clean, quiet park with lovely natural amenities and friendly park staff. Stayed in the campground on Memorial Day weekend, and it was completely full, but still a very pleasant stay. Beach area was clean and plenty of shore line and boat rentals available.

My wife and I spent our anniversary weekend down in the park. We celebrated by running a 5 mile trail race. Wonderful and beautiful. There are so many trails and sites to see it's hard to describe.
If you are looking for electric entertainment, look elsewhere. Nature is queen here. Plus the park staff is wonderful.

Beautiful place to visit. I would like to rent a cabin sometime, but I'm not sure when I would like to visit. I will search for more information.
