As an aficionado of all things Burmese, I have always found A Taste of Burma to be among the more authentic Burmese eateries in the DC area. The place itself is very nicely decorated, with lovely traditional crafts on display in a tasteful manner. As for food, I always recommend the fermented green tea salad and the ginger salad as good intros into Burmese cuisine. Anything with fermented mustard leaves is also good, and chicken with mango or pork with mango is a real treat. Try the traditional Shweji for dessert. Some of the menu seems Thai, so be sure to ask your server to point out the Burmese items. Burmese food is unique and a reflection of its geographical position between India/Bangladesh, Thailand and China.
My only complaint here is the uncaring service. We could not even get our water glasses refilled. It was difficult to get the attention of wait staff. Generally pathetic service.
