We spent our 3rd wedding anniversary at Vaucluse and had an absolutely marvelous time. Our room (Stephens Room) was spacious, comfortable, and private. The staff were very friendly, engaging, and professional. The food service was excellent and the cuisine remarkable. Dinner on Friday evening was a marvel: simple ingredients innovatively prepared. The 7 course tasting menu for Saturday evening's dinner was ambitious but in every case - the chef reached the mark! If you have never eaten grilled romaine in a cesar salad - you are in for a very pleasant surprise! The breakfasts were well-prepared, with nicely sized portions. The excellent staff remembered that I take skim in my coffee and brought it to me without asking!

Room Tip: Guests should ask for Stephens room if privacy is important - the room is in an annex off the main level and is quiet and private.

This is a superb inn. The staff is friendly and professional. They are helpful without being intrusive. The grounds and the rooms are immaculate. We had four breakfasts and one dinner and the food was fantastic. Breakfast was so filling that we just skipped lunch.

We had pretty much given up on inns after some bad experiences, but this place restored our faith.

There are two reality checks that potential guests should be aware of. First, the Inn is nearly two hours from the 50 mile mark on Skyline Drive, so it's hard to use as a base for Shenandoah National Park. We went once, but to do four hours in the car on consecutive days we felt was too much. Second, the food in the Winchester area is pretty mediocre, so guests mid-week, when they don't serve dinner, are kind of stuck. Weekend guests should not hesitate to have dinner in the Inn both nights.

All in all, this is a great place for a relaxing time in the Virginia countryside.

We stayed at Vaucluse to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. We couldn't have been happier. Our room -- we stayed in the Mill House Studio -- was great, the food was awesome and Neil and Barry are very charming hosts.

The experience here was top notch. We were here over July 4th and our third anniversary. The owners are very attentive and customer-service oriented. The social gathering with snacks and drinks on Saturday evening was lovely and the food was some of the best I've ever had, and they are incredibly accommodating with dietary needs and food preferences. The property is beautiful. We stayed in one of the "basic" rooms in the main house. I thought we paid a bit much for the room, but the food made up for it. There's enough to do in the area to keep busy if you want to do more than just hang out on the serene property. I highly recommend the location.
