We stayed here whilst on the Skyline Drive in October 2011. The warm and genuine welcome from Eve the Innkeeper was a nice touch afer a long day's drive from Front Royal. We stayed in Capt Lewis the 3rd in the main house which was good value at $120 / £80. The room was large and included all you would need for a comfortable nigt's stay. The breakfast was excellent and the table service could not be faulted. We would recommed a stay here.

Tip - Please accept the Inkeepers recommendation for dinner ! Unfortunately we didn't ...... and went to "Mrs Rowes" which was an institution in Staunton VA, recommended in a guide book. Mrs Rowes served what I could only call .........jail dinners - keep clear !

Room Tip: Choose the best value rooms at $120

All of the little details are covered at The Inn at Old Virginia. Upon your arrival, the hostess personally takes you to your room and explains all of the things that you need to know, but might not necessarily remember to ask. Breakfast presentations were elegant - lenox china, sterling silver, but at the same time you felt down home comfy. The food was excellent and the conservatory where we sat was lovely. Attentive service was outstanding.

Things to consider - one of the reasons we chose the Inn at Old Virginia is because it is located just outside of town. We personally like that, so it was a winner for us, and it was only a few minutes from Staunton. If you are seeking a place where you can step outside the door of the B&B and immediately into the mix of the city, than pick a different B&B. But if you want to see rolling hills and deer prancing thru the fields this is your place. Every room has a Select-Comfort bed so you can go as soft or firm as you like - this is a perk, but the bed was noisy whenever you moved. Try to book a room with no one above you, as the noise from the bed, people's footsteps and plumbing sounds carried. Decor was lovely, hostesses were an utter delight and very knowledgeable. Parking abounded.

We stayed here for three nights and it was absolutely perfect. Our room in the main house was large and beautifully furnished, as was the rest of the house. The bathroom was
spotless and attractive. The linens were luxurious. The Innkeeper and all the staff were lovely and gave us a first class welcome. Breakfasts in the conservatory were delicious. The only problem was having to leave. Absolutely 5 stars.

The B&B is located off the I-81 and a few minutes drive away from Staunton's downtown. The setting is rural but near a main road and a railroad track. From the decks adjoining some of the rooms you can watch cows in the fields and hear the distant rumble of interstate traffic. When we arrived the owner showed us around and explained how everything worked. She seems to have thought of everything to make your stay pleasant. Ice and DVD's are available as required. The barn has been expertly modernized and decorated. There is a a central communal sitting area with large screen TV. The suites are spacious with kitchenette including small refrigerator, coffee making facility, plates, cutlery, glasses and corkscrew. The bed was really comfortable and the room would have been more relaxing if sounds did not carry from other rooms. The room TV screen is very clear but we could not get sound on the main cable channels. There is a good reading lamp by one of the armchairs - and the bedside lights are suitable for reading too. The hot tub in the bathroom has a hand- held shower head but there is no shampoo or soap in the bath - they are in dispensers in the shower! At breakfast our special dietary request was honored and the regular home- made fare looked very appetizing. Breakfast is served in the delightful conservatory dining room.

Room Tip: Suites are spacious, other rooms not.

Wow! Don't miss this quiet gem of a place in the rolling hills of Virginia. Impeccably maintained and thoughtfully decorated by a caring owner with relaxed 5 star service.
