“Better be hungry when you go!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 26, 2013

Big eaters will love the Mill Street Grill! HUGE portions of very hearty food -- There were four of us, and we ordered three different entrees and they were all gigantic! The food was good, but not epically good. EXCEPT for the pot of hot bread they brought us at the beginning of the meal! Three different kinds of bread baked together in an individual loaf pan, served with flavored butter! The flavor when we went was blackberry, and it was fabulous!

Our waiter was good, the prices were reasonable. They had a very generous wine list.

The atmosphere was marred by an incredibly loud, boisterous group close by. Surprisingly, the group was comprised of three older couples! Perhaps they needed to adjust their hearing aids!

“Great Atmosphere”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 22, 2013

The Mill Street Grill has great atmosphere but the food is hearty rather than gourmet. It was reasonable and opened late at night. It was neat to see, but the food was heavily sauced and seemed a bit packaged. There is not a lot of choices in Staunton, and it was fine for us...would have liked something more with a Virginia flare.

“Lively atmosphere - disappointing food.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 18, 2013

Lively, buzzy atmosphere. The food was indifferent. Our French fried potatoes had to be sent back because they were cold. My steak was OK but I have had better in the UK. Was hoping for a genuine American meal but was disappointed.

The previous night we had had the most fantastic meal at Hamilton's in Charlottesville and this bore no comparison! What's more, this actually worked out more expensive even though we had had less to eat and the food and service were not as good!

The restaurant was full of families with kids and groups of noisy teens. Not really the place for a quiet, romantic dinner. If you want a quick, OK meal, without any frills, then this would do. But am sure there must be plenty of better places to eat in Staunton. Hope so!

“Appetizers, beer and waitress were great”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 14, 2013

We arrived in Staunton late April 2nd and could not find anything open, until we happened upon The Mill Street Grill. We thought it maybe just sandwiches and beer, which is what we wanted after a long day and drive. The man at the host station gave us a look of, "Really? This late?", which we understood, but we were really hungry! A delightful, sprightly waitress served us. Even though we bought little off the wonderful selection on the menu and we were so late, she made us feel very welcome. She put life back into a day that had been difficult. I wish I'd caught her name, but I think she was the only server on that late, though there may have been a party going on, in the back. My husband had wings and I had a goat cheese appetizer and a beer. And then a free sweet treat of peppermint ice cream was brought to us. All was great! Next trip to Staunton, which we loved, we will get to The Mill Street Grill earlier for a full dinner, and hopefully the same young woman will be our server.
