Our tour guide recommended this place for dinner on a Friday night while we were in town. He said they have the best ribs in all of Virginia. So how could we pass up that opportunity?

We started with an appetizer special of warm baked goat cheese which was delicious. The beef ribs were superb and so tender that the meat fell off the bone and melted in your mouth.

The service was also excellent and the place is very popular and was packed by the time we left.

The Mill Street Grill was suggested to us by a local. Great place with wonderful food and service. Might want to order a bottle of wine rather than by the glass if more than one person is having wine. Seems to be a better value. We ordered one dinner to be split (baby back ribs and beef ribs, garlic mashed potatoes and 2 salads). Oh and did I mention the bread? Wow! They split the dinner onto 2 plates and we thought they had ordered 2 dinners there was so much food! It was wonderful and our waitress, Cassie, was delightful.

We have been here a couple of times usually in a group of 5-8. There is usually a wait (even for smaller parties) and they don't take reservations, so get there at 5pm for dinner. The food is really good, maybe a bit over priced, but the portions are large. The restaurant is noisy, possibly because of all the tables they squeeze in there and the roofs are low. The waitstaff can be hit or miss. Probably our favorite part is the little scoop of peppermint ice cream as an after dinner refresher.

We visited Mill St on a wed evening and had a 20 minute wait for our table - but then we had another 15 minute wait for our waitress to show up at the table so we ordered drinks, appetizer and meals all in one fell swoop as we were salivating after smelling everyone else’s dinners for 35 minutes. Service picked up once the waitress decided to serve us. The appetizer and meals were delicious and the portions were large. We had the tomato, cheese, bread appetizer and there was more than enough for the three of us. The fresh hot bread - three varieties and blueberry butter were scrumptious! The girls had scallops and I had Ribs (beef and pork - don’t get the beef though as you will have a hard time finding meat amongst the fat and huge bones - stick with the pork - it taste better too) and the squash was a most tasty veg of the day. The wine and ale was good. Unfortunately, we were looking for a quiet evening though and the restaurant was very noisy. Decor was OK. This may be one of the best places in Staunton, but it is certainly not among the best places I've been to in my travels.
