“Inviting and peaceful”

Just stayed for the weekend for a mother daughter time at this wonderful B&B. Hostess was extremely welcoming and full of good information about the area. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in this beautiful home. The breakfast was delicious with plenty of healthy fresh choices. The atmosphere in the home was so relaxed. The price was very reasonable as well.

Room Tip: We stayed in the front bedroom and enjoyed a wonderful bath. The house is set back from the road so...

We had a hard time finding a B & B in Staunton, VA on the days we were looking, but did find a room at the Artist's House. The upstairs room overlooking the street was perfect. It was quiet, clean, and the bed was super comfortable. The only downside was the bath had only a tub and no shower, boy we are spoiled. It was actually relaxing to sit in a tub and not feel rushed. The breakfast was good, though I could not eat the "soy bacon" because of an allergy.

Stayed one night with Sharon and Alan on our way to Shenandoah NP as Staunton made an ideal mid way stopover from Dulles Airport to break journey.

Sharon was really welcoming and offered us a nice glass of wine on arrival. The room was lovely, very clean and comfy bed - it has free wi-fi but Sharon even offered use of her own computer in her studio next door. The public areas looked relaxing although we didn't really have time to use them.

Breakfast was lovely, although we are not vegetarian we really enjoyed the organic non meat breakfast - the vegie bacon was lovely, and plentiful. Sharon even packed us off with her homemade scones for the road and made for welcome snacks till lunch. We enjoyed the social side of breakfast and lingered longer than we normally would to talk to fellow travellers (guests) Ted and also Alan & Stella who like us were also from the UK - along with Sharon and Alan it was good company.

In hindsight, we would have stopped an extra night to enjoy Sharons hospitality and the lovely town of Staunton - so if we come back that way we will do just that and we will definitely stay at The Artists House. Thanks so much for a lovely stay! X

Room Tip: There is an annex which we are told was really lovely but didn't see it. Our room was nice and h...

We were looking for a place to stop for the night about four hours south of Harrisburg, PA, on I-81, and fortuitously chose Artist's House B&B in Stuanton, VA. Sharon, the innkeeper, really IS an artist (ask to see her work), and she and her husband have found a good balance between modernizing and restoring their house.

We chose the "Anniversary" bedroom, which is not highlighted on Sharon's website. It's a large, comfortable room on the ground floor, and it has a large, attached bathroom with colorful tiles and fixtures and a bathtub with handheld shower. The room has a flat-screen TV with satellite service, and there are two comfortable chairs for hanging out. The only drawback to this room is that the compressors for both air conditioning systems (upstairs and downstairs) are outside the windows, creating some noise at night if they are on.

We ate breakfast early, so we missed Alan's famous hash-brown potatoes. But the generous supply of fresh fruit, organic yogurt, cereal, bagels, and home-made scones was more than enough to fill us up and send us on our way content.

Room Tip: The "Garden Room" view is at the front of the house overlooking the parking area and plant...

Sharon and her husband have a lovely house and are very helpful and accommodating. It is clean and beautifully decorated. The common areas are comfortable. It is close to downtown Staunton, but not really a good walk at night (safe, but about a mile from downtown). Our room, though, was the one downstairs and I would not suggest staying in that one. It had a shower, and Sharon explained it was a hand-held sprayer in a bathtub, but did not mention there was not a curtain. Also, when the living room light is understandably left on for late-coming guests, the room (right next to the dining room with French doors and drapes) lets in some light.

Room Tip: not the one on the first floor

Friends and I stayed here one night when we visited Staunton to see a show at the Shakespeare Center. I made the reservation over the phone with Sharon and was surprised when she didn't require a credit card to hold the room. We paid by check when we got there and she was totally unconcerned that it was an out-of-state check which again was a nice surprise. The rate was totally affordable at $130 for our two room suite. The House itself is lovely, though hard to find in the dark. It is clean, comfortable, and very cozy. My friends and I booked the Spruce View Suite as it is two bedrooms and a shared bath. Both rooms were lovely and the beds were perfect, I slept like a baby. Only one room had a TV and there was no DVD player so when we wanted to watch a movie we ended up using our laptop. The bathroom was wonderful and the shower, wow, I could live in that shower. The water was hot, great pressure, AND there was the option for strong jets to massage your lower back. Breakfast was spot on with lots of choices of cereals, muffins, yogurt etc. We had a fresh fruit salad, hashbrowns with fried onions, and when Sharon was told that one of us was vegetarian she made "Facon" . We enjoyed our stay and will totally stay again.

Room Tip: Here is their website: http://www.artistshousebandb.com/ The Spruce View Suite is two separate bed...

We stayed at The Artist's House B&B and had a wonderful weekend. The minute you enter the house you see how beautifully decorated it is. Sharon was wonderful to deal with and made everything so simple from making reservations, to checking in and out. We really enjoyed her breakfasts! The house is a short walk to downtown Staunton. The artwork, done by Sharon is displayed beautifully throughtout the house with the added benefit of guests being able to purchase her original oils and prints is they so desire.
