This is our third experience with bring a study tour group through the area, and staying at the Red Roof Inn. Many of the attending parents are very picky about cleanliness. They were very pleased. The desk staff and the managers were top notch in their service and helpfulness. Check in was very easy. They had everything ready for us. We stayed for three nights and on two occasions they let us use the breakfast room to fix our own suppers. That is way beyond required assistance. They also went out and purchased special food for breakfast to meet the dietary needs of our children. The only disappointment we had was that the pool was closed due to major equipment failure. It appears that the owners may not reopen the pool. That will be a blow to us, as it is a great way for the children to burn off some energy. But their extreme commitment to service above and beyond may well overcome that loss!

First impression was nice, and then it went downhill from there. No thermostat in the room, it was either hot or cold. Heat lamp in the bathroom was missing a dial to operate it, and a bulb to use it. Free Wi-Fi, but no available to outlet to plug in laptop at the computer desk. TV was on satalite dish with just a few channels. CBS went off the air 5 minutes into the LSU / Florida game. A huge disappointment to my husband. Coffee machine didn't work at breakfast, a necessity for most. We stayed here because everyone else was booked and either the Microtel or Triple A lost our reservation there. Even if this is 1/2 way to our destination, we won't stay here again, I'll keep driving!

Stayed at this hotel for two nights while visiting VA's wine country. We had to switch rooms at check in because my boyfriend said our first room smelled like animals (they do allow pets). We asked to be moved, the front desk clerk was pretty miffed about it, but did allow us to switch rooms. Our second room was fine, very clean, no animal smell. Rooms do not have irons/ironing board and limited space to hang up clothing (no closets). We did not get to the continental breakfast for it does not appear to be open very long, it was closed up well before 10am. Shoney's is right across the parking lot and is open for breakfast. It was a quiet area, we weren't bothered by any outside noise. Hotel is convenient to wineries, Skyline Drive, and other Shenandoah Valley attractions. Would probably be worth staying at again because of the price and convenience.

After driving for a few hours decided to stay here as I found a good coupon in one of the travel books. They are still remodeling a few rooms but overall hotel was in good shape. Pool and hot tub were closed by the time that I checked in, but breakfast in the morning was good. would definately stay again.

I stayed here with my family of four, for the annual Fall Bicycle Festival in Staunton/MiddleBrook in mid-Oct and because of the fall colors couldn't find anything else available. The hotel location couldn't be beat and Staunton was a charming town. I also was able to get a discount ($10/night) by calling central reservations the day before our stay. Now I know why....

If you've stayed at an original Guesthouse Inn with spacious rooms, open interior corridors, pristine swimming pool and breakfast bar with yogurt and fruit...this is not the same hotel. This is a Guesthouse Inn by name only and was recently a Shoney's Inn, hence the Shoney's Restaurant nearby. I read an early review about the breakfast and didn't believe it until I saw it myself. The truly "tightwad" owners of the hotel do in fact meter out food during the skimpy continental breakfast. I was there with several others carbing up for a 40-50 mile bike ride and we had to ask for everything...bananas, waffle batter, bread, eggs. It wasn't like they didn't have the stuff, they just wouldn't put it out. At first I thought is very thoughtful for someone from the hotel staff to tend to us in the breakfast but found that it is obviously a way to ration out and control the food. It was awkward, annoying and cheap. The orange juice and apple juice was obviously watered down...you get the picture....not a good way to start the day.

The room was adequate with a fridge and microwave combo. The housekeeping staff was very nice, although we needed to request additional towels for our family. The pool and jacuzzi area was a big hit with the kids but this adult noticed that the whole area needed a complete renovation as is was rusting, run down and needed more chairs.

Stay here for no more than one night.

This hotel is very convenient to interstate. I got a decent walk-in rate from one of those coupon books. The room was clean, but the television had only a few channels, not usually a problem, but Pres. Ford had just died and we wanted to see the coverage. On the plus side, the indoor pool was very warm and clean, which is nice in January, and we had it to ourselves. Very nice ladies at front desk. One thing that really bugged me: they advertise a pretty good breakfast until 9. We got there at 8:30, there was a sign on waffle maker that said "Out of Order" but it was still warm and plugged in! There was no decaf coffee, which is a must. Finally twisted the owner's arm and she made us some. That bugged me a little, because we were told the waffles were delicious. We had to stop for breakfast down the road. I got the feeling the owners were a little tightwadish.
