This is a great place to sit and people watch, or take in a hot cup of your favorite brew and a delicious snack before or after a Shakespeare play. friendly staff, good background music, and shelves full of books to look at while you pass the time. very comfortable.

“Good coffee, gluten free food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 14, 2013

Great place for an early morning cup of coffee (I think they open up before any of the other shops in downtown Staunton). I particularly like the fact that they have gluten-free pastries and frequently a gluten-free soup at lunch time.

“Not my cup of... well, anything.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 25, 2013

Aside from price - which, strangely, seems no longer to matter - there are four things that set a coffee shop apart from the competition: atmosphere; food; wi-fi; and the actual coffee.

There are three coffee places within a city block of Staunton's main attraction - its world-class Shakespeare theatre - and I have friends who prefer Mugshots to the other two. It must be the atmosphere. The place has big, sunny windows and a kind of funky, 70's vibe - though, having lived through the '70's, I don't think Mugshots does it very well.

But otherwise? I don't get it. The pastries are neither particularly tasty nor particularly healthy - and they really should be one or the other, if not both. In my limited experience, the wi-fi is spotty. And the coffee is just bad.

I like coffee with distinct, but subtle flavors - like a good wine. At this place, some blends are muddy, while others are overly flavored.

Now, please take this review with a grain of salt. After a year of living in Staunton, I've only been to this place maybe three times. But there's a reason for that. Every time I go, I wonder why.

Blue Mtn Coffee bought this place a while back, and raised the quality of the beans to what they serve at their other locations. We Like!

“I Think I Could Have Done Better..Anywhere!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 16, 2013

I had an $8.00 turkey and cheese sandwich. It was on a croissant, and that was nice but it was ONE thin slice of deli turkey with a thicker slice of cheddar (it came with American but I asked for a substitute, cheddar was all they had).

Extremely disappointing and in a town with coffee shops and cafes on every corner there has to be one better than this.
