Description: Serving great American food with a worldly flair, we’re open Tuesday through Saturday from 11am to 3pm for lunch and 5pm to 9pm for dinner. We also serve a lovely brunch on Sunday from 10am to 3pm and dinner from 5pm to 8pm. The atmosphere is at the same time elegant and casual. The richness and warmth of the hand-planed wood-paneled walls provides a comfortable dining experience that can be enjoyed equally in dressy-casual attire or hiking shorts. We are located in the heart of historic Sperryville, Virginia, 75 miles west of Washington D.C., at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. We look forward to serving you soon!

From appetizer to desserts, this place is a must go for foodie visitors of Shenandoah. Wide selection from turf to surf, prepared tastefully and appropriately portioned. Be sure to request upstairs seating on a lovely day.

This is the second time we had dinner at the Thornton River Grille in Sperryville. I wouldn't have expected the good food the first time, and it didn't disappoint the second time we had dinner there. On a warm night one can have dinner on the upper deck and we also had the pleasure of some live music too, on a Sunday night. The service is good and the food delicious and inventive. I had fish with a blueberry jalapeno sauce which was really nice. The wine list is very good too. The prices are "city" prices but not exorbitant and the food, wine, service and atmosphere is worth it.

Stopped here on a Sunday for a very good lunch on the upstairs deck area. The lunch menu has a variety of sandwiches, breakfast and brunch items. The food was good and the service was prompt, friendly and attentive.

The Thornton River Grille fits in a long line of grilles, that serve what I consider basic fare for a grille. Overall you get reasonable food, but it does not stick out as special. Sitting on the deck is nice, but it lacks a great view. Which is to bad since that part of Virginia is really beautiful. The wait staff is reasonably friendly but can do much better.

Had a reservation for Tuesday evening. Were 1 of 2 couples there when we arrived.Quickly seated and drink order taken.Waitress (Jess) got wine wrong -- drank it any way -- birthday & didn't wish to spoil it.Appetiser good but very small.Nice presentation.Ordered extra portion of rice with entree (N.Y.Strip med.well/no blood).Steak bloody center on service -- ate it any way. No extra rice.Complaned politely and finally (after 15 minutes) got it & was cold (would not even melt butter -- showed that to waitress) were comped 1 desert ! Noticed all the chairs had dirt on the backs where people pull them out for seating.Very pricey for 2 wines , 1 mixed drink , 1 "B&B" after dinner ,2 appetisers ,2 entrees , 1 comped desert ! $144.28 plus tip ( left $20.00 instead of my normal 20%) ! Price would have been fine if every thing else was ! Should have been a "Jewel" of a place.Captive customers that wish a bit up scale. Not much else close in the "Little Up Scale" . Gives the appearence of a "Money Grab" place. No obvious owner/management over site or care !
