In my opinion this was a waste of time. A wedding party had take over the tavern and completely overwhelmed the staff. Friends of ours stated that they had to wait over an hour just to get their bill. Considering that the wedding party was stay at the adjacent Berry Hill Resort - they should have been better prepared and had additional staff members. The Berry Hill Restort is in the middle of nowhere with no cell phone service and the unfamiliar roads are dark. The Resort staff offered to order a pizza for us (thanks for the effort). We ate left over banana bread in our room.

Drove 45 miles to have supper at Darby's Tavern. Suppose to open at 5:00 p.m. on Sundays. There were 8 people (not all from our party) waiting for the tavern to open and at 5:15 I called the office to see if they were going to open. They called management and then said NO, the tavern will not be opening today. So before driving any distance you may need to call to see if the tavern is going to open on that day. Then they may or may not know the answer. POOR MANAGEMENT!!!

On a recent visit to the South Boston Va area we were looking for a nice place to eat and drink off the beaten path. On the recomendation of some locals we ended up at Berry Hill Plantation. This place is Amazing!!! We drove down the almost 1 mile driveway to find a beautiful Plantaion house that looks like something straight off a movies set. Upon our entrance to the "grand mansion" we finally worked our way back to " Darby's Tavern" this must be part of the old plantaion kitchen? The atmosphere was great and much of the architecture looked almost original.Very historic "feeling" at least. The food was excellent and the drinks were too!!! I must say the most impressive part was the service...The bartender/server, I think her name was Bobbie? was GREAT! I must admit I am a sucker for southern charm...they made us feel so welcome and never unattended. We even were introduced to the chef and the mgr. They all shared a little knowledge of the history of the tavern and the plantation. We will definetly be back and maybe next time even stay in the mansion!!! Great food Great sevice Great time...

Food was okay, service was below average and we were the only ones eating. Bar crowd got all the attention. With the ambiance of the old plantation kitchen, large fireplaces and original stone floor so much more could be accomplished with this space. An investment could turn this tavern into a cool location to eat or the local watering hole.

The food was quite good and the atmosphere is superb - being in the converted 1840's kitchen of the Berry Hill Plantation house the ambiance is superb. The wait and bar staff very friendly. Prices very reasonable.
