This place exceeded my expectations. I usually stay in four star hotels, this hotel beats most of them. Value is unbelievable- free wi-fi and a full buffet breakfast make your stay that much more valuable ! BRANDY is awesome and always there to greet you with a smile and waiting to help you with anything you could think of. Thank you!!

staff was very friendly, building seems new, clean and well maintained, pool was nice, jaccuzzi was not heated, but they let us know ahead of time before check-in, great location, just 3 miles away from smithfield, would recommend this hotel any day!!

My family recently stayed at this Hampton while visiting Va to see Colonial Williamsburg and other attractions in the area.
Front desk staff, especially the Front Desk Manager, Brandy, were kind and helpful. The breakfast was varied (a different main course each day) and plentiful. The rooms were clean and comfortable.
There were plenty of restaurants nearby to feed the family as well as CVS for odd & ends or Dollar General if you'd like cheaper odd & ends.
The only drawback was the 45 min drive to Colonial Williamsburg etc. each day. I believe this to be the fault of whichever website on which I originally found the hotel. It said 20 miles to Colonial Williamsburg... Not being a crow, I found this not to be the case. I have decided that the pro's of the hotel outweigh the small inconvenience of driving.

We came to the Hampton Inn in Smithfield for a family gathering this July 4th weekend. The hotel is relatively new and if the previous reviewer would have bothered to check their website at Hamptoninn.com (I always check the website here and the hotel itself) she would have seen that the address listed on that website is different from the two she mentioned but she did not do her due diligence so that onus is on her.
The hotel was clean and very pleasant. Even though we were put by the elevator (rm 413) it wasn't too bad. There was a group who thought it was okay to run through the hall like banshees until midnight but they finally calmed down and went to bed. If I was to stay there again though I would ask for a room at the end of the hall.
The big problems with this hotel is that if there is close to a full house, the seating at breakfast is very limited and there is only ONE waffle iron which is situated in the worst possible place. It was right by the juice machine and it appeared that everyone wanted a waffle with the world's slowest waffle maker. The line snaked around the room to the lobby. Most of us just gave up without even waiting in line. Five nice little girls though were taking forever and blocking the toasters, the juice machines, the bagels and muffins. It really wasn't their fault but it was really ridiculous. We came down at around 8:30ish and stayed for an hour. The seating was also limited, very nicely decorated but very limited in the seating department. The pool was only an indoor pool which was somewhat disappointing but that was okay. It was crowded though as I believe the hotel was just about full.
The room was much nicer than the lousy Norfolk Airport Hilton we were at about 6 weeks ago. The room was very clean, there was no leftover hairs from previous guests and the AC worked fine. The room was nicely decorated and had a microwave and fridge. The desk in the corner had a lot more room than what is usually in a Hampton Inn. All in all, very nice. Yes, the coffee maker is in the bathroom but like a previous reviewer stated, it's not in the toilet.
The front desk people were very nice as well and in the late afternoon chocolate chip and macadamia nut/white chip cookies appeared. They were very popular and my young son enjoyed his two cookies.
I think it would be a good idea if they had another waffle iron. Even if the house isn't full, if they had two, things would go a lot faster. I would not recommend staying by the elevator but sometimes those things cannot be helped.
Overall it is a nice hotel and we would stay there again.

I was very disappointed to discover that the Hampton Inn is NOT located where shown on the "Map This Hotel" on Trip Advisor and Expedia. It is shown as being at the historic area of Smithfield, but is in fact across the river outside the historic city center on the out-skirts of town surrounded by urban sprawl. If you want charming surroundings and to be able to walk historic Smithfield, you will be sorely dissappointed.

This Hampton Inn is new and is the nicest I have seen. It has the largest continental breakfast area I've seen. Workout area is nice, has an indoor pool, and a washer and dryer. I had a suite, so all the rooms may not be this nice, but this one was excellent. Housekeeping was kind enough to clean the room later in the evening for those of us sleeping during the day(working nites @ Surry Nuclear). Several fast food places around, but nothing special. There is a Starbucks in the big supermarket across the street though.
