“Friendy,clean,and quiet hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2012

We had a room with a great view of the mountains. Our room was quiet, and comfy, but most of all clean! You must check out the pancake machine, and at night the warm cookies! We'll be back in August!!!!

My husband and I appreciated the convenience and newness of this Holiday Inn Express and stopped again on our way home. When entering the bathroom during the night, I noticed something moving on the floor. Pursuit ensued, and I managed to capture and contain the cockroach with bathroom cups and plastic bags. When I presented it to the front desk attendant the next morning, he quickly typed something on the computer, then announced, "Your room is comped." I was so surprised that I did not think to request proof of that unsolicited offer. I am still waiting for the credit to my account, after emails and calls which are not returned by hotel management. Guest Relations did extend an offer of points which I declined on principle.

First, I want to say that this hotel was lovely--nestled in a beautiful spot, especially if you had a room with a view (we didn't, but it was still pretty to see from the breakfast room). The clerks were very nice, the room was clean, the breakfast was great. However, we arrived late while traveling from Northern Virginia to Tennessee, and thought it was a little strange to hear the t.v. volume turned up so high in the room next door or possibly below us. We were exhausted, and assumed it would go off, but unfortunately kept waking all night to the sound of the t.v. It finally went off around 5:30 a.m., only to be replaced by other loud banging in the room and a blow dryer or vacuum. It seemed strange to arrive so late at a hotel and start complaining about the noise, which I'd thought would stop, but of course once we started to drive again I wish I had called the desk, since we were still tired. In the morning, I mentioned it to the clerk, but obviously no one else had called either, since they were unaware. Everything else was fine except a word of warning to anyone who uses shower caps--Holiday Inn and most Hilton hotels only supply them on request at the front desk now. They are not provided in the rooms anymore due to "concerns from customers that used ones were being put back in the boxes". That seems like a silly excuse to me when you could simply find a way to seal the box, it seems. I never remember that I'm missing a cap until I am actually climbing in the shower, so this new policy doesn't work for me. I would definitely stay at this hotel again, but I'd try to get a quiet room next time, hopefully with that beautiful view.

Room Tip: You might ask for a back-facing view room, but the hotel seems to be popular and probably fills thos...

Our room smelled like it was used as a smoking room. It was terrible but too late at night to change rooms. The receptionist came to smell it and acknowledge that it did smell but didn't offer an alternative. When we came earlier in the day, we had to ask one of the maintenance folks to call the receptionist. Apparently she was asleep! Bottom line is that for a non-smoking hotel, the room is a smoking room!

I stayed here during my visit to Natural Bridge (breathtakingly beautiful!) & Caverns. I was jealous of the ones who had rooms on the back side of the building because they had the best view of the mountains. However, if you went down to breakfast, or just stood in the lobby, the row of windows gave you a gorgeous panoramic view of those mountains, too. The room I had with the king bed (I brought my own pillows and body pillow, though) was spacious, clean and still new-feeling, despite being just over 2 years old, and I still had a view of some mountains from my window. The hotel is close to town, so there are plenty of restaurants, but if you prefer to buy your own groceries, there are four Krogers (unbelievable!) between the hotel and Tanglewood mall, all found along Electric Road, one of the main roads through town. I preferred my own microwaved breakfast in my room, so I can't comment about the breakfast they provided. I'd still recommend going for the view alone!

Only problem in the bathroom was the shower curtain that kept slipping open so that water made a puddle on the floor. I took care of the puddle, but did let the lady at the front desk know when I checked out. She apologized for the creeping shower curtain and said she'd have someone take care of it. I think it's was just the way the curtain rod was angled that made the curtain keep sliding open.

The hotel is very convenient to the interstate, not close enough to hear traffic, though. The air conditioner did make a faint hum, which I think might be tuned out by most so that it doesn't really disturb sleep.

Room Tip: A room closer to the ends of the building might be more convenient, if you don't mind taking sta...
