I've been curious about this place for years, and had a chance to try it out on my way south for a road trip. It's a fairly large one story building from the early '60s, in the classic roadside motel style. The outside is presentable (although the neon sign badly needs work), and the lady in the office was friendly. The rate was about $50.
The rooms were a bit of a letdown. The entire interior looks original, and while the retro dresser and hanging lamp were a neat throwback, the red shag rug was very dirty and worn. The bed was clean, but the sheets were pretty old. The pillows looked new-ish, and had plenty of 'fluff' left in them. The rooms also need to be repainted, or at least have the grungy spots scrubbed off the walls. On a chilly night, the baseboard heaters kept the room nice and warm. There was no cable, but the TV did get digital channels. The room had a fridge as well. The night was fairly quiet, although US 29 has a fair amount of truck traffic until quite late.
The bathroom is white tile with black trim, and has a very odd mirror built into the wall. Cleanliness was only average, and the wallpaper is yellowed and worn. It did take the hot water quite a while to get hot, but it got really hot once it got going.
There is still a pool, but I would be shocked if it's ever in operation. You are well south of Lynchburg at this point, but there are a few restaurants within 5 miles. The truck stop nearby was mediocre, but cheap and friendly.
