They say first impressions are important. Rockfish Food & Wine nailed it! We were trying to locate a nice cozy spot for Sunday dinner and we almost left when we heard there was live music. But after hearing and feeling the vibe inside, we stayed. We started with a tasty pinot noir and enjoyed delicious starters and divine entree's. I really recommend the Duck breast! And all the while we were entertained by a dynamic funk band. Return visit planned!

“Great fish”

The food is exceptional at this wonderful neighborhood restaurant - I guess it's a sign of popularity that it's difficult to get a reservation at times. The wine list has good variety.

“Take a pass”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2013

I've tried Rockfish three times: twice for dinner and once for brunch. Both dinners were quite unremarkable, bland, unimaginative. At brunch, my friend was served curdled milk for her coffee three times before they managed to come up with something approaching fresh. The owner was completely indifferent when this happened. The frittata was dry and tasteless. I have a co-worker who used to go there for brunch with his wife every Sunday, but stopped going because, according to him, the portions shrank and prices went up. There are quite a number of good restaurants in Roanoke and this is not one of them. This place would never survive in my hometown in Northern Virginia. They seem to do okay, but I'm told that they survive on repeat business from the same folks. I wish I could tell those people that there is much better food to be had in the area! But, at least I can tell all of you. Don't waste your time or money at Rockfish!

“Now I've tried it...Once.”

At Rockfish for brunch, my spinach with roasted baby beet salad was quite good, if pricey ($10 for a small salad), so I was surprised that it was not served with crusty French bread. When I asked for bread, a toasted English muffin appeared. There was no pepper grinder or unsalted butter on the table. Is there anything more to say...?

“Poor”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 2, 2012

Disappointing. Got the feeling they don't much give a s**t about you if you aren't a ''regular.''
The Greek salad was a joke - overpriced. Just dumped a bag of spinach leaves on the plate and a few [very few] Kalamata olives and a little feta. Was supposed to have pepperoncini - saw nary a one. Have had twice as good at 2/3 the price.
Cuban red beans and rice just so-so.
Do not waste $ 5.00 on the house salad - lettuce straight out of the bag. Nothing else.
Save your money - better places down the street.
