This is a great steak house. It has a 30s-40s vibe - like maybe Al Capone will walk in any minute. It's pricey as are all restaurants in the a la carte steak house genre, but the food is better than most, and there's far less pretension than most.

We always visit the restaurant during the first night of an annual conference in Roanoke with a large group. The steaks are outstanding. Seafood is going considering Roanoke is not close to the ocean. We were served in the back room which had higher ceilings and was more well lit. The wait staff is excellent. Their timing is perfect and they are quick to respond to requests.

Reserved through user-friendly OpenTable. Upon arrival very satisfied with nice private corner table for two. (Table #42) Dress code "violators" unfortunately were in plain sight, with only a few men wearing jackets and none with ties - this creates a too casual ambiance for a supposedly fine dining room. No complaints with either the efficient, friendly wait-staff or the reliably "beefy" dinner with excellent side dishes of creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. However, it was a mistake to order the out-of-season "beefsteak" blue cheese tomato salad which contained normal winter cardboardy slicing tomatoes instead of juicy fresh "beefsteaks.

This is the best restaurant Roanoke has. I am not the biggest steak person in the world, yet I love these steaks. Best I have ever had. Add the mashed potatoes, pineapple martini, and the creme brûlée for dessert? Perfection! Yes, it's expensive, but you pay for what you get. A fantastic meal and great atmosphere. Always a treat to go to Frankie's!
