“Will be back”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 23, 2012

Stayed at the Hotel Roanoke Convention Center for a 6 day business trip. It was a A+ stay and WIll certainly be back. Some may be a little annoyed with the constant train traffic with the NS main line right out front, but I think it added to the atmosphere since the hotel was built by railroad tycoons.

The Sunday Brunch was excellent, and I would definitely recommend. Roanoke downtown is right across the street, and a very short walk across to restaurants, and a very hip nightlife on the weekends.

The room was top notch, I will definitely be back for a weekend trip with my girl sometime soon!

The hotel was very nice, and the location was great for going downtown to the Market area with numerous bars and restaurants to go to. The facilities were well maintained and overall a unique place to stay. The only downside was the bed, I don't know if it was me, but it was very uncomfortable. Normally I sleep well at Hilton owned locations, but the bed was hard and uncomfortable. We were only there one night so I didn't complain. I would stay there again because of it's location and the ease to get to places downtown and to the Civic Center. And remember...Doubletree has great chocolate chip cookies!

Everything and everyone in this historic, grand hotel are marvelous. Although everything, as noted, was so great, what stood out more than any other aspect of our visit was the food. We ate the buffet lunch in the Regency, a light sandwich dinner in the Pine Pub, and in the AM had the executive lounge's complimentary continental breakfast. The food is a culinary delight. Kudos to the Chef...and we will be back for sure,
PS A big special thanks to Craig, Tarria (sp?), Joseph (all in Regency), the girls who work in the Pine Pub, and the extremely personable gentleman who was working in the Executive Lounge the evening of the election. He was so nice!!

Room Tip: Elegant property, bring some dress up clothes to feel more comfortable when dining.

The Hotel Roanoke dates back to when railroads were king. The hotel originally belonged to the Norfolk Southern Railroad (and many others before them) and was a short walk up the hill from the train station (now a railroad museum interesting in its own right). The hotel sported a 5 star restaurant. Remodeled 20 years ago (after being closed down for several years, the hotel belongs to Virginia Tech (managed by Doubletree) and is attached to a conference center shared with the city of Roanoke. The rooms have been remodeled to create space closer to today's standards. Bathrooms are still small. The furniture is a vintage look and indeed in places, is vintage. The service is very good, the staff friendly and helpful. Self parking is available but a walk uphill to the hotel. Valet service is available. The hotel has a lot of nooks and crannies to meet in. The conference center can hold smallish (400 - 600) conferences (although not that many can be housed in the hotel itself). Roanoke's art museum, The Taubman, is within a few hundred meters walk from the hotel and the Roanoke Market area just across the walkway over the railroad tracks. Good food and things to see and do.

We were passing thru and Roanoke was our half way point. This property is stunning, even after dark. Important note, none of the signage involves Doubletree branding. We had to call just to be sure. The front desk agent working in the evening was very sweet, though the overnight agent wasn't so hospitable when grabbing a quick water after dinner. We enjoyed dinner at the bar, our server, a woman from London (cannot recall her name) was warm, outgoing, and personable. The food/beer were pretty good, a little pricey, but worth the convenience, loved the potato cakes. Our room was nicely appointed and the furniture was in good condition. My only complaint was a lack of hot water, but a luke warm shower isn't the end of the world for one night. The location is great and walking distance to the market. Make sure you visit the shops and grab some local goodies. We look forward to actually spending time here in the future and returning soon!

This is a beautiful property in a great location within a short walk of much of downtown Roanoke. But with the conference center, the hotel staff can quickly get overwhelmed with big groups. On last stay, while 3 people slowly worked on a check-in line that was over an hour long, four people held the door open for arrivals. Hall cleanliness could have been better. Parking fees for both self and valet parking and fairly expensive restaurant/bar prices quickly add to room rate.
