We were passing thru and Roanoke was our half way point. This property is stunning, even after dark. Important note, none of the signage involves Doubletree branding. We had to call just to be sure. The front desk agent working in the evening was very sweet, though the overnight agent wasn't so hospitable when grabbing a quick water after dinner. We enjoyed dinner at the bar, our server, a woman from London (cannot recall her name) was warm, outgoing, and personable. The food/beer were pretty good, a little pricey, but worth the convenience, loved the potato cakes. Our room was nicely appointed and the furniture was in good condition. My only complaint was a lack of hot water, but a luke warm shower isn't the end of the world for one night. The location is great and walking distance to the market. Make sure you visit the shops and grab some local goodies. We look forward to actually spending time here in the future and returning soon!

This is a beautiful property in a great location within a short walk of much of downtown Roanoke. But with the conference center, the hotel staff can quickly get overwhelmed with big groups. On last stay, while 3 people slowly worked on a check-in line that was over an hour long, four people held the door open for arrivals. Hall cleanliness could have been better. Parking fees for both self and valet parking and fairly expensive restaurant/bar prices quickly add to room rate.

This is great hotel for a conference (they feed you almost continually). The rooms are comfortable and I had a great view of the cathedral. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant was on the more expensive side, but delicious. The steak I had was extremely tender. I definitely recommend staying here when you are in Roanoke.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on high floor with a view of the church/cathedral.

The is a beautiful hotel. It is easy to get to from the highway and has friendly and helpful staff. We had a gorgeous corner room with comfortable accommodations. The movie prices were OUTRAGEOUS though! $17.00 to rent a movie on TV? Also, there are two restaurants. The one is VERY fancy, expensive and could be intimidating if you are traveling and only have casual clothes to wear. This restaurant offered a full dinner menu. The second restaurant is a casual Pub/ bar atmosphere but a very limited menu. We could not order a full dinner which is what we would have preferred. The food was basically appetizers, burgers and sandwiches. They should consider expanding this menu to include more choices. All in all, we enjoyed the hotel and would return if we are in that area.

Room Tip: Corner room is large and comfortable with windows on two walls.

Have to admit that when the opportunity to stay at this hotel presented itself, I jumped all over it. Was not disappointed in the least! From the ease of check-in (with the trademark warm chocolate chip cookies) to the friendly and accomodating staff, we had a more than satisfactory stay at this Grand Hotel! The weather was beautiful which, of course, made the stay even nicer, but the atmosphere alone here would have been enough to ensure a great experience. They don't build hotels like this anymore, with its rich wood and colorful murals. Even the elevators had chandeliers!! The portraits of Washington and Lee in the lobby are spectacular. Please take the time to look at all the photos which depict the hotel from days gone by. You will find them everywhere! We had a corner room on the 5th floor which was a bit small but still comfortable and quite charming (had the appearance of a dormer). And we were able to see the famous Roanoke Star from our room each evening!! We did not eat at any of the hotel restaurants, but did utilize the executive lounge for breakfast and evening snacks. Not a tremendous selection but what was offered was quite good and filling. The lounge staff was so pleasant and helpful, talking with guests and really providing lots of area-related tibits. However, the lounge needs a different coffee maker. The one they have is way too slow for the breakfast crowd! Something I learned hanging out in the lounge: there is a 7th floor here, which is one huge suite!! If there is no one occuping this suite, they will take you up there to see it. And there is a story behind this floor, so check it out!! We had a great time here and look forward to another stay in the future.
