“Good Now. Will be Great in the Future”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2013

The Greenway is a great addition to the revitalization of Roanoke with good bikeways, athletic fields, and walking. Yes, do watch out for the cyclists. Roanoke is still getting used to this new thing and courtesy and care for pedestrians still needs some work. New housing, more mature plantings, and more exercise locations will happen over the years.

The vistas combine rivers, tall trees, the hills surrounding Roanoke and factories, railroad tracks, and the backyards of unattractive houses. It is an urbanscape - get used to it.

“Greenways are great”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2013

The best part about the greenway is being able to get from place to place without car smog and fear of being hit by cars. The worst part about the greenway is that people let their dogs off the leash, so if your running or biking, beware.

I will say this. me and my family LOVE the greenway. It provides a safe AND scenic place to go biking. pretty much accessible from any part of town and they are always expanding it. In my opinion, one of the best bike paths in the area.

“Roanoke Valley Greenways”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2013

The greenways are all paved and wide and for the most part level. They meander along the Roanoke River for miles, often giving a really nice view of the city. There are at least 3 parks along the way with restroom facilities and playgrounds for the kids. You'll find strolling seniors, jogging youngsters, cyclists and Moms with baby strollers. We've never encountered anything but very friendly folks. There is more planned for the future.

“Great for exercise & views of nature also!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2013

Great for getting your exercise and depending on where you happen to be on the Greenway, you may see ducks, geese or other foul. Paved so you don't have to worry about getting your footing, the only thing to worry about is the occasional person on a bicycle.
With exception to the South end in S.E. Roanoke, you'll have relatively flat walking. Once you reach the Water Treatment Plant though you'll have to deal with those wonderful odors coming from it and just past it, it starts up a step incline.
Stay away from that end though and you'll do just fine.
