Owner description: Jefferson Center is a nonprofit organization that enriches and educates diverse Western Virginia communities by producing high quality performing arts programs, by providing long and short term rental space for community partners and individuals, and by providing educational outreach.Built in 1924, the Jefferson Center's historic facility originally served the community as Jefferson Senior High School. The high school was closed in the 70's and after sitting vacant for more than a decade, the Jefferson Center Foundation was formed to renovate the space into the beautiful arts venue that serves Roanoke and the surrounding region today. Jefferson Center offers world class concerts featuring a diverse array artists such as Wynton Marsalis, the Tedeschi Trucks Band, Del McCoury, Esperanza Spalding, Rosanne Cash, Bobby McFerrin and so many more. Additional, Jefferson Center offers long term rental space to 20+ non-profits and locally owned businesses, as well as short term rental space for community meetings, weddings, celebrations and many other events.

“Little slice of culture”

Downside, parking. But Roanoke has yet to learn how to handle parking. That is the downside to this city. If you want to have more attendees, more clients, more sales, etc...you need customers. In order to get them, YOU NEED TO SUPPLY THEM WITH PARKING AND FREE PARKING AT THAT. So who knows when that will catch on. Meanwhile, if you don't mind hiking to their door, the Jeff Ctr does offer a decent array of choices in entertainment. Much needed in this area, and much appreciated by this person.

“Sunday Worship @ "The Jeff"”
Reviewed April 25, 2014

Yep, you heard right ... you can now attend church service at the Jefferson Center on Sunday mornings. Sure beats holding Sunday School in a hotel lobby/breakfast area.

“A must-do”
Reviewed April 16, 2014

I adore the Jefferson Center. It's a small venue with a lot of character, great sound, good location. The only downside I can think of is parking, it can be a challenge and the neighborhood can be a bit daunting at nighttime.

“Beautiful room, interesting shows”
Reviewed December 22, 2013

This is the best concert venue in Roanoke. We recently saw folk/Americana singer songwriters Darrell Scott and Tim O'Brien in concert. The room is attractive and comfortable, the sound quality is fine, and we had a wonderful time. Our arena rock days are behind us, but we are still interested in live music. Shaftman auditorium at the Jefferson Center gives us a place to go.

“Absolute Gem”
Reviewed July 30, 2013

This place is an absolute gem. Historically, it demonstrates the commitment that Roanoke city leaders have made to a vital down town when they renovated and repurposed a former high school into a stunning entertainment space. As season ticket holders we enjoy a steady stream of diverse Grammy award winning entertainment that is outsized for a city the population of Roanoke.

Thank you for your dedication as a Season Ticket Holder. We look forward to serving up some of the finest music you'll find anywhere in the world again this year!

Jefferson Center's transformation in the late 80's into the arts center you know today could not have happened without the support and vision of City leaders, as well as the thousands of individual donors who have supported Jefferson Center and our mission as a non-profit focused on world class performances, providing community short term and long term space, and as an education hub for local kids interested in music.

Thank you for your kind words and we hope you continue to enjoy your time at Jefferson Center!
