“Got "Lucky" in Roanoke”
Reviewed October 16, 2012

Thanks to a recommendation from our innkeepers, we had a wonderful experience at Lucky. Superb handmade cocktails, delicious, unpretentious food, friendly, attentive service and fun, lively atmosphere - all at a very reasonable price. What more could you ask for!

“Second Time Was The Charm”
Reviewed October 12, 2012

We watched with great anticipation as Lucky was built on Kirk Avenue. Once they finally opened we were anxious to try it out. Mussels - their specialty - is one of our favorites so that was what we asked for on our first visit. Unfortunately - They Were Out Of Mussels! OK - we ordered the Country Pate and a glass of wine. It was fine - but it wasn't MUSSELS! And the music was very dissonant jazz which made the experience less than desirable.

NOW - we finally went back. This time there were MUSSELS - and they were FABULOUS!!! Our server suggested we have soft bread with the rather than the toasted bread. Excellent! It soaked up the delicious sauce so we could slurp up every last drop. YUM! And the "Prickly Pear" wine we had with the mussels was just right. Just a hint of sweetness and a hint of bubbliness was perfect with the delectable mussels.

They won us back! We'll definitely be back but we know that unless you don't go at 530 for appetizers, you have GOT to make are reservation REALLY early. It has become a hot spot for dinner. Even seats at the bar were reserved! If the delicious MUSSELS are any indication, the dinner menu is worth it!

Thanks for giving us a great second experience!

“Fabulous evening!”
Reviewed October 10, 2012

We had the best evening here! Food was amazing - oysters plump and flavorful - marrow bones crazy good. But the handmade cocktails ruled. Then, the atmosphere was just fun with a staff witty and informed. A walk down the street to the Music Hall sealed the deal for a great night.

“A Must-Eat Restaurant in Roanoke”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

Saw great reviews for this place on Yelp. Not a very far walk from the hotel where I was staying. Very comfortable interior and the bartender (and co-owner I'm told) Hunter did a great job of making me feel welcome. This place has an amazing cocktail and beer selection. Tried a 1/2 dozen oysters as a starter. Their homemade cocktail sauce was OK, the oysters were very good. Had the wagyu steak with smoked blue cheese, marrow butter and pommes frites...also very good. While I was dining, the other co-owner stopped in and we talked for 30+ minutes about music, Roanoke and such. I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience here. Great spot tucked away that you absolutely must check out when in Roanoke.

“Awesome bar, special occasion dinner”
Reviewed September 14, 2012

Sometimes I feel like they are trying a little hard at Lucky with their insistence on ingredients like tripe, but I gotta say that WE are lucky to have it in Roanoke. Probably the best bartenders in Roanoke, and a great place to go before AND after a show at Kirk Avenue Music Hall. Meatloaf is good, Fried Chicken is a can't miss, and the Mussels are a great deal and are perfectly prepared. Love the speakeasy atmosphere and the earnest dedication of the wait staff and kitchen. They are really trying to do something special here, and almost always do.
