The Taubman is small enough to see everything in it in one trip. There is a fun kids space downstairs & they have new exhibits often enough to make it interesting. They feature local artists on occasion & cater to many age groups as well as artistic sensibilities. The building itself is a work of art! And it's free! It's a must see when visiting Roanoke!

Roanoke is a great place to view art. Our Taubman Museum, which is an art work itself, has on loan some of the well known artists.
The whole area has many talented local artists whose work can be seen at various galleries and sites throughout the city.

that the best feature of the Taubman is the building itself, which is a masterpiece. Inside, the permanent collection is average, with a few really interesting pieces. When will they get a director who can produce worthwhile special exhibits? Every time I drive past the building I lament the unrealized potential.

Though the museum's collections weren't extensive, we found the South Asian Women's collective worth visiting, along w/ being introduced to the Lieber purses. It's worth stopping by if you are near the heart of downtown Roanoke

The Taubman Museum is in a beautiful, very contemporary building.
In keeping with the design of the building, the exhibits on display were all contemporary art, My favorite was the installation inspired by Jefferson's 'Notes on the State of Virginia.'
The museum is well worth a visit.
