So sorry to see this 'piece of work' in downtown Roanoke. I can barely stand to look at it... Wasn't too impressed with the exhibits on the inside either. Waste of time.

Happened to be in Roanoke and decided to visit the museum, once again. Love the quality of the art and the overall experience. Had a meal at Nora's Café which is top notch! The food is so beautifully prepared and plated, I am always tempted to take a picture.

Can't complain because it is free, but there was not much on exhibit and what was, was not my type of art. Went in and did not know what the building was supposed to be. No signs, but the person at the desk explained the lay out.

On the first floor, there is a section for children to explore various art with hands on experience. While no children were there when we were, I could see many children would have fun. There were about 15 or 20 different art stations and a puppet theater.

The second floor had about 10 galleries. I believe 2 were open.

Most of the museum seemed to be funded by sponsors and perhaps taxpayers. The building is spacious, but it needed to be filled with art and people. I hope it becomes a success.

For those of you who like architecture the building is worth checking out. It’s very Frank Gehry looking and we later found out the architect, Randall Stout, worked for Gehry. Check out the outside from all angles including from the bridge (great place to watch the trains) going to The Hotel Roanoke. Unfortunately the inside was not as spectacular as the outside. A business sponsor provides free admission which is nice but the art collection is pretty small. In all fairness, we were told exhibits were being changed out so maybe there’s usually more. But hey, it was free, air conditioned, clean and we enjoyed what art they had. You can’t beat the location right at the Center in the Square with the VA Transportation Museum, O. Winston Link Museum, The Hotel Roanoke and more all within walking distance.

Very well done exhibits in a walkable, small building constructed in 2008. Admission is free. It is within walking distance to the historic Old Roanoke Hotel.
