This wonderful building holds some impressive art! When I went there were no temporary shows up, but the permanent collection is rather nice. There's an awesome gift shop, a kids section, and a quaint little cafe. It was a great place to spend an afternoon!

A stellar collection of works by Thomas Eakins and two family members. Interesting temporary exhibits of primarily abstract objects and paintings. Admission currently is free every day of the week.

This museum was quite beautiful. It also had a terrific and reasonably priced gift shop. There was an entire section dedicated to hands-on children's activity. Our only disappointment was that they were remodeling, so very few exhibits were open. There is no admission price (just donations accepted)!

The citizens of Roanoke have come to bat by funding a first class museum for the first time in the city. Unfortunately, for many years the art owners have been forced to give or lend their treasures to museums elsewhere, so it will take some time to acquire a permanent collection to match the outstanding space. Meanwhile, some excellent small traveling exhibits are being booked, such as artists' portraying "tent cities," and a famous jeweled handbag artist. New display designs are also in the works and the Cafe is a big plus, but unfortunately not open all the time (e.g., closed on Sundays). Up and coming.

Situated in downtown Roanoke on Salem Street, the Taubman Museum demonstrates impressive architectural style, with an open, glass enclosed entry atrium.

Unfortunately, the quality of the exhibits was disappointing. Several galleries were closed, we were told, for a seasonal changeover in exhibits, while those galleries which were open disappointed - one room with a hodge-podge of photos, paintings, and mixed media sculptures, and another with a display of Judith Lieber purses.

Considering the beauty of the facility itself, the museum should have a lot of potential. Unfortunately, in January 2013 it was nowhere near it.
