“Usually good fare, but off the mark this evening”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2012

I have previously had good experiences with this establishment, but Fork in the City was decidedly "below par" last evening, when we entertained out of town guests. We are in the midst of a heat wave, and the restaurant's air conditioning was not up to the task: it was hot and uncomfortable and our dinner guests were breaking a sweat. The uncomfortable temperature immediately turned me off. It took a very long time to get our drink order, while I could see our drinks languishing at the bar counter, "heating up".

My wife ordered a burger, medium and it was not cooked sufficiently --the inside was rare/raw; she left most of it uneaten. I ordered a cup of seafood gumbo, which was served cold, the cheese unmelted, and it had no broth at all. It was like a congealed stew that one would eat with a fork. The shrimp did not taste right --perhaps a victim of the area's power outages?

Not sure what happened, but this was a very "off" evening for what had previously been a pretty good local restaurant. At this writing, I cannot pull up their on-line menu, which is another indication of management issues.

“A nice neighborhood place to eat”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 17, 2012

We stop in here quite frequently when in the city. We like the casual atmosphere, the reasonable prices and the unique menu selections. We have had the pizza, several different sandwiches, the chowder, and appetizers. Everything has been good. Sometimes you do need to allow extra time to eat here because it gets very busy.

“The slowest service I have ever received in my life”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 30, 2012

4/29/2012 I chose this restaurant with for a total party of 7 on the day of the Opera Carmen as this restaurant is very close to the venue. We arrived at 12:20, ordered at 12:30 and received our food at 1:55. They said that they were "short staffed in the kitchen." Doesn't one think to staff the kitchen on the day of an event across the street? The food was average when it arrived. We had to wolf it down to make it across the street to a 2:30 event. This restaurant made what should have been a lovely time, very stressful. The server was very nice, but nothing makes up for this. I will never go there again

“Very Poor, service and food”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 17, 2012

We've been here before and it was good. Today, our waitress said there weren't any menus available. I went up front where a stack of menus sat. It took 20 minutes to put in an order. The soup of the day - French Onion - came after one hour. The cheese had been removed from the top of mine because it was burnt. Obvious by the rim of the bowl. Twenty minutes after receiving the soup we got our meal. My wife's burger arrived RAW. She ordered medium well. We heard the table next to us never got one of their meal orders. The place was full but there wasn't any line. The collards were good but not as much as the first time we went.
