There's a collection of midrange/low-range hotels clustered around the Extended Stay Roanoke Airport. First off, this "Airport" hotel is 2.5 miles away. No shuttle bus for you, you'll need to take a cab if you're not renting a car. Half the hotel fronts an interstate spur, so unless you have the air conditioning cranked up, you'll be hearing occasional cars zooming a hundred feet or so outside your window.
The kitchen area of the room was completely nice (I suspect business travelers probably don't take advantage of cooking in their rooms frequently), with a toaster, a microwave, pots and pans, a two burner stove with a steam catcher, and a kitchen sink. My single bed room came with two work tables and two desk chairs, so that was a nice comfy place to sit down and work when I had the time.
In the bathroom you'll find: little bar soaps. period. No shampoo, conditioner or any other liquid amenities you'd expect in a hotel.
Being a traditional extended stay hotel (these hotels saves personnel costs by not doing daily housekeeping), you'll get housekeeping at least once per week but not daily. So if you want your bed made up or trash taken out, do it yourself before you leave in the morning. ;-) I did discover a card in the bathroom that stated the rules: "full service" housekeeping is done once per week or if you want it on demand, that'll be $10 please. Another housekeeping service is called "Refresh", which is another term for "limited housekeeping" (i.e. replacing towels, emptying trash, making bed with existing linens) and that's $5 a pop.
Next to the office you'll find a laundry room with vending machines, so you'll be able to get your laundry done and find a nice selection of sugar enhanced drinks & snacks. The nearest snack store is at least a half mile down the road so if you didn't come with a car, you'll be doing a nice healthy walk.
The furniture in my room, as well as another room I visited, looked somewhat beat up. A couple of my room's walls had some white paint touch ups which really looked cheap. In other words, the overall maintenance of the hotel is fine, but the furniture and rooms themselves need more TLC.
Wireless works, but took a few minutes to get set up and actually working on my Macintosh laptop. Costs $5 per day.
Room phone extensions inexplicably don't match the room numbers (e.g. to reach room 228, you need to dial 7928), so if you're lucky, you might get a call from another guest attempting to guess the number of another room around you.
