“Reasonable sushi, normal prices, good seating”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2012

We went for lunch, sat outside, nice relaxing place, decent sushi, i would recommend for lunch. Menu selection is also good. They make a lot of rolls. Although I did not try any unique ones, the quality of fish and Toro was acceptable. I would imagine they are better at dinner. Still for lunch, they were reasonable.

“Fresh Ingredients, Small Choices--Watch out for the Sashimi-Wasabi”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2012

We ordered the seafood tempura entree as an appetizer, the Atkins Roll (no rice), Spicy Shrimp Tempura Roll, Spicy Yellowtail, Eel Cucumber Roll, Alaskan Salmon roll, and a variety of sashimi to include white tuna, salmon, mackerel, eel (unagi), scallop, and tuna (maguro).
All the ingredients were very fresh--we particularly liked the fact you did not need to "special order" fresh wasabi. Some of the rolls were a little sloppy and the rice was a little mashed, but tasty nevertheless. Our favorites were the eel cucumber and spicy yellowtail. We also especially liked the fact that the sashimi was NOT on a mountain of rice, but had small, well packed proportions to taste the fish. However, the menu choices were fewer in number than expected.
What we did not like was that every sashimi had a "pre-dosed" amount of wasabi on the rice--hidden UNDER the sashimi. This sent our 5-yr old into fits the first time she had her salmon and scallop (which she loves and did not eat), and mom broke into a small sweat because she puts her own wasabi on and did not know it came "preloaded". --To which I had to donate half my Kirin Ichiban beer to her...Note to restaurant. Not all kids want 5-10mg of wasabi on EVERYTHING they eat from the kitchen. The rest of us like to control it.
Two other little things--the miso was cold, and what the heck--no shirley temple? Really, go out and buy some cherry sprite or some grenadine.

“Delicious sushi off the beaten path”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 16, 2011

Came here based on the Tripadvisor reviews, and was not at all disappointed! Started with well-prepared miso soup. Moved onto 3 sushi rolls: yellowtail, salmon/avocado, and shrimp tempura. All 3 were uniformly excellent -- fish had great texture and flavor. Shrimp tempura was the best. Service was very prompt. As others have noted, this place is far removed from the cacophony of Reston Town Center, making it a little harder to get to, but much more peaceful. Some reviewers noted prices as high - it might be that I'm used to Boston-area sushi which tends toward the expensive side, but I didn't find the prices to be particularly bad.

“Great lunch!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2011

I have never been to Ariake for the sushi, but I can report on the lunch bento boxes. Everything in them is fresh and tasty, and I love the fact that you can try a little bit of each specialty: soup, fried tempura, salad, sushi roll, meat (I've had the salmon, tonkatsu and beed teriyaki--all were delicious), rice, etc. It is also resonably priced. The restaurant itself is also set up very nicely. Service could be a little better... but the food is usually worth the wait!

“Fresh and delicious. A little pricey, but worth it for the quality.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 23, 2011

We have eaten here several times, both in house and take out, and are never disappointed. We always get the sushi sashimi combo, and the chef selected the best cuts for the day, nicely prepared and presented. The only critique we have is that the combo is a shared entree for us, but as is, it only comes with one salad and miso soup. It would be nice if they gave you two salads and soups, even if it added a couple bucks to the price. We've also had some special rolls, and the rainbow and volcano rolls are especially nice. The volcano has a bit too much sweet sauce on it in my opinion, but the combination of fish and the freshness cannot be overstated. If you like sushi, give Ariake a try!
