“best restaurant in Reston/Herndon area”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 10, 2013

I've eaten at PassionFish three times. In my opinion, it's the best restaurant in the Reston/Herndon area. It's a formal place, with top notch service and excellent food. But it's expensive. Fortunately someone else was paying the three times I've eaten there.

The menu changes so I'm not sure how useful it is to mention particular dishes. However, my first visit featured something called Captain Crunch Sushi. It was beyond! The last time I visited, my 15 year old daughter thought she was in heaven when they brought her a side dish of lobster mac-n-cheese. Twice I ate a seafood ensemble that was baked and served in a clay-pot. Fantastic! So if you see anything in a clay-pot on the menu, order it.

Lastly, what sort of restaurant is this. It's where you ask your girlfriend for her hand in marriage. It's where you take your wife for your 10th wedding anniversary. It's where you take your Mom or Dad for their 75th birthday celebration. Expect it to hurt your wallet (or better yet, your company's expense account), but you'll enjoy the experience.

“A good place for a special dinner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 7, 2013

Passion Fish in Reston Town Center is an unusual place with an unusual menu of very creative dishes. I can understand why everyone might not like everything, but treat your taste buds to a try. The gumbo is dark and musky but I liked it, and lobster ravioli is served in a very unusual but tasty sauce, like nothing I had ever tasted before. The meal is well presented with a flair (soups are brought in small covered containers and poured into your bowl at the table), Our server, Shane, took the time needed to explain the menu fully to us, as if, though the place was filled, we were the only table he was responsible for. If you like a gourmet touch, try this!! We came away impressed!

“Cozy yet Elegant Seafood Dining”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 19, 2013

We reserved a table celebrating a 50th birthday - how nice to have a personalized menu wishing "Happy Birthday, Lisa" on the menu header (not overwhelming, just a quiet, lovely touch). We were greeted at the table with a whitefish spread and thin slices of perfectly toasted baguette. Garrard, our server, was friendly, considerate, and knowledgeable (he helped select a delicious Petit Sarah) - he was available whenever we had a question, and his recommendations for dishes and dessert were spot-on. I liked that all were served (with multiple servers) at our table at the same time. Our Crab and Corn chowder was rich, slightly spicy, and savory - served in a closed pot, then poured at the table to stay piping hot. The Scallop Civiche was melt-in-your mouth, with a coconut lime finish. The Lobster clay pot had a surprising portion of large lobster pieces, and was beautifully ladled at the table. The huge seared sea scallops were served surrounding a black squid pasta wrapping wild mushroom filling - beautiful and delicious. The grilled white asparagus were smokey yet tender, and the sweet potato fries served the table :-) I'm a demanding coffee drinker, and usually find this a low point at restaurants, but not with last night's decaf coffee - their care for every detail showed as it was also surprisingly good. I was also served a complimentary dessert to celebrate my birthday - I chose the chocolate mousse - a chocolate bomb with ganache, praline crunch, and crisp brownie base -- dark, decadent, smooth, rich, and beautifully presented - I had planned only to take one bite ... Also delicous as was the Creme Brulee gondola with biscotti. The chef also graced us with servings of complementary hand made chocolates with pecans and marshmallows to finish our meal - it was a lovely dinner, with unhurried yet very attentive service. We didn't go to the bar, but saw that it was well attended with a festive atmosphere. While a little expensive, for the quality of the food, the ambiance, and the outstanding service, this is a wonderful pick at the Reston Town Center.

“Chef quality meals”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 17, 2013

Preparation is top notch. Food content is top notch. Presentation is top notch. Today's special of scallops and goat cheese ravioli was very tasty, though was served in a Dutch-Oven-like pan that could and should have been preheated prior to dishing the prepared food into it. Got cold too quickly and did not need to be so. Have previously eaten sushi which they prepare very well...sushi is a reason to dine there.
Service staff is proper and attendant to customer needs.

“Appealing Aesthestically...but Quality is Inconsistent”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2013

It would be okay but honestly have had food served in chipped dishes or broken cracked glassware - twice! And the waiter or manager who came by could care less...they just were like "Next Victims!" The caesar salad is tasty and so is the crab chowder but your server will disappear for 1/2 hour and you think to yourself - should we just leave now?
