Today, my wife and I, and three friends went to see Captain Phillips. We went 90 minutes ahead of time so that we could have lunch before the matinee started at 2:00 pm. It was a wonderful way to spend the day with family and friends. Lunch was ordered and arrived very timely so that we could spend time talking and eating before the movie started. The theater has a wonderful sound system and is absoulutely beautiful on the inside. We were treated to music while we had our lunch. The movie started on time and the wait staff did everything they could to serve everyone in attendance while not standing in the way of the movie or talking too loud. I would highly recommend a lunch date for anyone that has a few hours to enjoy lunch with a movie while catching up with family and friends. We are looking forward to doing it again.

Feels like stepping back in time to a 1930's movie. The wonderful Art Deco lines surround you and if you look carefully you keep noticing more historic features. When you walk in there are comfortable seats spaciously arranged around tables of various sizes. You receive your menu, when ready use the telephone on the table to call in your order. The food / drinks arrive fairly quickly they are average quality but tasty. You sit back to enjoy the movie. My criticisms are the length of time you have to wait to buy tickets, the doors open to let a batch of people inside where you choose your location then purchase your tickets ($1 discount for cash). Evening shows seem to be the most popular. Once the tables have been sold your only choice are the balcony seats arranged like a regular movie theater. I thoroughly enjoyed my afternoon matinee and will certainly be back for more.....

Awesome sound, big screen, great popcorn(real butter), old time classic theater. The lower section has been converted into a dinner theater. There is standard balcony seating. We drive all the way from Yorktown to see every movie they run. We love it!

The Commodore Theater is something you must experience when in Portsmouth. Saw the Lone Ranger last night with my wife. Good movie but awesome theater. Dinner at your table via telephone call to their kitchen. Food is decent and they serve wine by the carafe or bottle. Chairs are wonderful to sit in while eating and watching the movie. The screen and especially the sound system are first rate. We will absolutely see another movie here next time in town.
