Our most recent stay at the Inn at Tabbs Creek was like all the times we've stayed there in the past -- simply wonderful. Restful, relaxing, beautiful, great breakfasts, and the friendliest, most accommodating hosts one will find anywhere. Greg and Lori are truly wonderful people to spend time with, and we cherish our visits. Can't wait to get back there this Spring.

Room Tip: I don't think there is a less than great room in the entire Inn ...

My husband and I recently spent 2 wonderful nights at The Inn. I could have stayed there forever. We were greeted by Dave at the front door who showed us to our room and gave us a quick tour. Reception and check in couldn't have been easier. We felt truly welcomed.
ITC is far enough away to be very peaceful but close enough to enjoy lots of adventuring and exploring. We had never been to this part of Virginia and there is so much to see. Greg and Lori are superb hosts and the breakfasts are great. The afternoon wine and cheese gathering was a casual but warm reception for guests to meet each other and their hosts.
The folks in the area are all so nice and truly hospitable. Our recently renovated room and new bathroom were very relaxing and comfortable. There are no TV's in the room (thank goodness!) but there is one in the "library" downstairs, which includes book and movies to borrow.
Lori guided us to great driving tours and sights in the area as well as cook superb breakfasts! We walked away each day full and satisfied! She eve shared a couple of her recipes with us. Thanks Lori!
Paintings of Greg's grandmother hang throughout the house and that really gives the feeling of home, not just temporary quarters. I think it's a very nice touch. They are beautiful works.
If you really need some away time, down time or want to sit on the dock and ponder the universe, this is a great place!

Room Tip: We stayed in West Billups. Does require going up steps but the room is spacious and the afternoon su...

Can't say enough about our recent visit to Tabbs Creek. The inn is a lovely old house, keeping all the character of it's origins, but with nicely updated bedrooms and bathrooms. Comfortable, peaceful, and inviting, we spent time by the fire in the library, sitting on deck chairs on the dock, wandering around the area, and enjoying the beautiful water views from the Captain's Room. Greg, Lori, and David are gracious hosts, committed to making sure your stay is a pleasant one. Breakfasts are fresh, delicious, and varied with something to please everyone. You can borrow bicycles to explore the area or take the canoe out for a trip around the cove. We have found that one of the highlights of staying at a B&B is spending time with the other guests, getting to know new people from different backgrounds.

Room Tip: The water views from both West Billups and the Captain's Room on the second floor of the main ho...

Although we have often brought our RV to the middle peninsula, and are familiar with Gloucester County, we have not spent much time in Mathews County. When planning to make a trip for our 36th anniversary on Feb 29th, we decided to stay in a B&B instead of pulling our travel trailer. The Inn at Tabbs Creek came up on internet searches and the pictures were inviting. So we decided to give it a try, having never stayed at B&B before. My wife and I are glad we did. We found Inn at Tabbs Creek to be a beautiful and peaceful place. Needless to say, our room was very nice, with great views, very clean and comfortable. We also simply love Lori and Greg and their hospitality. Both are great cooks and really demonstrate their love of the area and guests. We also love their lifestyle of conscientious conservation and will visit in the summer to see how Greg’s garden is coming along.

Room Tip: The best view of the Tabbs Creek and East River are from the main house.

Spent the weekend of 2-4 March at the Inn. Other than the rain it was a great weekend get-away. Although even the rain on the tin roof added to the charm of this old house, which has been excellently converted to a three bed room B&B. (There are three more guest rooms in a out building.) Greg, Lori and David were most gracious hosts, and Greg can turn out some quality breakfasts (best latkes I’ve ever had). We stayed in the West Billups Room and found it to be a relaxing and inviting place to lay our heads. The bathroom is spacious and well appointed with a large walk in shower. Very nice indeed. The dining rooms and library are all large enough to not feel crowded yet small enough to be cozy and warm. The screened in porch would have been my spot if the weather had been cooperative. I hope our next stay will be a little warmer and dryer so I can enjoy the symphony the cardinals, robins, finches, chickadees and other birds give every morning. Greg and Lori serve Mobjack Bay coffee which was excellent and use local or Virginia made foods as much as possible and it shows in the freshness and quality of the breakfasts served. We made the trip up to Kilmarnock and did a tasting at Good Luck Vineyard and The Dog and Oyster Vineyard. Both would do Mr. Jefferson proud. Dinner on Friday night was at the White Dog Inn, serving what I would call Southern Gourmet cuisine. Our meals and the service were excellent. We ate a mid afternoon dinner on Saturday at Lees Diner in Kilmarnock which was acceptable but not memorable. Typical small town diner fare. Back at the Inn we enjoyed a wine and cheese social (Cheddar and chocolate cheese? Who knew?) with Lori, Greg and David and our fellow guests. One of the great things about staying at these small, owner operated B&B’s is the chance to meet so many interesting folks from across the spectrum of political ideology. Makes for some fascinating conversations. Given our proximity to Williamsburg, Richmond and so many other places of historical note made me think of the early days of our nation when revolution and politics were discussed in taverns and inns across the Commonwealth. Saturday night found us at Donk’s Theater in Hudgins for the “Virginia's Lil Ole Opry.” A slice of Americana indeed. Nashville meets Hee Haw with some very talented singers and musicians. If you are staying in the area it is certainly worth the price of admission. We reluctantly checked out after another delicious breakfast on Sunday and headed home in the rain. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, have every intention of a return trip, and most highly recommend The Inn at Tabbs Creek. We commend Greg and Lori for all they are doing to promote the “green” and organic philosophy (without being preachy about it) and hope they have a long and prosperous run as inn keepers of this little jewel of the Bay.

My husband and I stayed at the Inn for our anniversary after reading the wonderful reviews of this place. It almost seemed too good to be true, but we were so glad that it was just as the previous reviewers had described. As many have mentioned, the innkeepers are just delightfully gracious hosts. They were very flexible and accommodated some of our last minute requests. Breakfast was delicious both mornings we were there, and we sat with a returning guest who showed us that they had featured a picture of the sunset from their previous visit to the inn on their credit card! I think that speaks of how peaceful and laid back the whole town seems.

LOCATION: This is not a place to go if you want to do a lot of sightseeing, but that was one of the pluses for us. We keep ourselves busy enough back where we live, so having nothing to do but enjoy walks around the property, sipping tea while reading in front of the fireplace in the cozy den, and enjoying afternoon naps with a great view suited us just fine. There are a couple cute towns within 30min with some little shops, antiques, and authentic diners; but, it's mostly a place where us busy folks love to go to "get away from it all".

OUR ROOM: We stayed in the Captain's Room, which is one of 3 rooms on the upper level of the Main House (the other 2 are the East and West Billups rooms), and it was just as advertised - even better. The view of the water and sunset was so pretty, and the bathroom is spacious and every bit updated with a nice shower. The captain's room also has a bright, comfy sitting room attached.

THE DECOR: Something that is special about this house is that the innkeepers have updated the decor to feel like a cozy country house with warm colors. You won't find old wallpaper and Victorian knick knacks at this Inn; however, they have kept the beauty and charm of the home intact (lots of wood floors and structures) while adding comfortable furniture and amenities that feel more like home than the formal parlors that you might find at some B&B's. We found the decor to be very thoughtful and cozy.

We will add our voices to the many that have applauded this place, and will happily recommend it to friends!

Room Tip: We loved the Captain's Room- cozy blues and yellows, a great view of the water, attached sitting...
