A gem of a find!

For those who live in Washington, DC, anywhere in Virginia, and most of North Carolina, this bed and breakfast is one of the best my wife and I have stayed at. The location is in the gorgeous Virginia tidewater region, the western shore of the Chesapeake. Nestled in sparsely populated (pop. 9,000) Mathews County, The Inn at Tabbs Creek gets three stars just for its quiet and quaint atmosphere. From the drive up the long, old southern path to the beautiful pond it butts, this location is unbeatable.

The entire location has been upgraded and renovated with the latest accommodations, but without spoiling the charm of yesteryear. Their Chesapeake Suite has wi-fi (satellite connectivity) and a jacuzzi, but still the decor and ambience of old Virginia.

Innkeepers Greg and Lori go beyond the other other B&B's by making you their friend. The personal touch is what sets Tabbs Creek apart. Greg and Lori will join you for breakfast and the wine and cheese social, live right on the property, and invite you the main room at any time, day for night, to sit and socialize, pick up a book or movie, or grab a drink. It's clear that the two don't really do this for money so much as a love of people.

The nearest town, Mathews, affords you the ability to look at and buy some great art pieces. The local artists are fantastic, and some larger names, like P. Buckley Moss, are also available. See Scott at the Visitor's Center for a complete verbal history of the town and county (lovable guy).
The Poddery down a couple of streets is a find– they fire their own dishes, chalices, door knobs, and other trinkets in great designs. My wife and I picked up half a dozen items for a couple hundred dollars.

Room Tip: Chesapeake Suite

What a pleasant surprise! We booked the weekend looking for a get away in the middle of nowhere with very low expectations. Lori and Greg made it special in every way. We plan on coming back with the rest of the family next year. Great place, great view, great service, great food, great hosts, GREAT TIME!!!

Room Tip: Choose one of the suites - roomy and separate from main house

Just returned from a weekend stay at the Inn at Tabbs Creek. This was our second stay, and it was just as nice as the first time. This time we stayed in the East River Suite which has a lovely sitting room area. Nice place to sit to drink your wine and have appetizers if you cannot sit outside. It was a bit chilly to sit outside in November -- though, they have added a lovely firepit!

Other additions since our last visit -- you can now rent kayaks from the Inn as well as paddleboards. Nice addition. We bring our own kayaks, and the Inn has a really nice launch area.

Breakfasts were once again amazing, and Greg is more than willing to share recipes.

We definitely plan to return, so many kayak areas to explore and the Inn at Tabbs Creek offers a great location and wonderful hospitality.

My husband and I celebrated our 37th wedding anniversary at the Inn this past July. It is definitely off the beaten path but well worth the journey! We were warmly greeted upon arrival and taken to our room (The Chesapeake Suite). It was lovely - very comfortable with views of the water from our bedroom. The breakfasts were amazing - each day Greg dazzled us with something new and delicious (loved the asparagus/sun-dried tomatoes strata!). Greg & Lori are so warm and friendly that we felt as if we were old friends. The sunsets from the deck each evening were peaceful and beautiful. We also enjoyed the local restaurants - especially Southwind Pizza - which offers much more than just pizza! We definitely look forward to a return visit!

Room Tip: The Garden Cottage offers more privacy with only 3 rooms - two of which are suites, and is just a few steps across a lovely flower garden to the main house.
