Very nice stay and resort.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Beautiful setting, and comfortable room.
Free wifi in room would be nice but looks like that feature hasn't made it to NZ yet.
A great place for holiday makers and families to explore the islands and the Far North.

Golf trip to play at Waitangai G C. Hotel handy to golf course & with treaty grounds next door. Staff very helpful. Swimming pool & spa very good after games. (played 4 rounds). Beautful surroundings for a early morning walk.

You read that right. No a/c. We had to leave our sliding glass door open. .with no screen mind you... open to stay cool. Since the guys across the courtyard felt like it was bar/party time everynight in the courtyard you can imagine how happy I was. Especially since front desk couldnt enforce quite. Did I mention we had a duck enter our room through the open courtyard door?! No breakfast, coffee, or local calls included..and only 20 mins of WiFi IF you sat in the lobby on your phone. Stingy.

This is the third time we have stayed here. In my opinion it is the best location in Paihia, even though it is a 5 minute drive from the shops in town, purely because of the beautiful surroundings. It is located right on the water and has amazing views, well-manicured grounds and loads of facilities. We had a sea-view room in the Hibiscus block which is located right behind the pool and is a bit newer than some of the other parts of the hotel. Upstairs was the best as we had our own little balcony with two chairs and a tiny table, whereas those on the ground floor had one big communal type deck.

Their pool is pretty impressive and has great views over to the ocean. There is a tennis court, bikes for hire, etc. The main issue we had with the hotel was all the holds put on your credit card - for example, with checking in they put a charge on your card, takes around 3 working days after you leave to clear. If you want to use one of their tennis rackets - $50 hold on your card AND you have to pay to use the racket as well. Hiring a bike - have to pay to use the bike AND there is a $200 charge put on your card. These charges really put us off using any of these things from the hotel as for two of us to hire a bike for half the day, for example, it would have been $30 each to hire the bike and a $200 hold each so all up $460 blocked on your card which is ridiculous. If you don't have a credit card they will charge you the full amount and then refund it when you leave. Further, there is a $4 charge to use your credit card which is totally disproportionate to the fee they are charged to process credit card transactions - this all gives a pretty poor example of "Kiwi hospitality".

Another downside was that in our room the double bed was just two singles pushed together and you could still feel the gap between them. Also, the check in and check out process is VERY slow.

But all up was an enjoyable stay with friendly staff.

Room Tip: Upstairs sea view.

Granted the great weather enhanced our three days here but it felt like a mini resort break without leaving the country. We lay by the pool on loungers, slept into 9am one morning because it was so peaceful and had a great experience with the friendly helpful staff. Dinner in the restaurant was good and the bar staff made an excellent coffee

This hotel is beautifully situated in the Waitangi Treaty grounds and a few minutes drive from the town. Very Eco friendly design for its situation. Staff exceptionally friendly, room comfortable and clean, not great pillows but didn't t stop me sleeping well. Would recommend this to anyone visiting the area. Wouldn't t rate the breakfast but enjoyed breakfasts in the local cafes - much nicer.

Room Tip: Sea views are good but not essential

We have stayed at this hotel on and off for the past 10 years .The service at the Copthorne was amazing - nothing was too much trouble and any issues we had were attended to immediately .

The outdoor area of the hotel is really it's selling point . The hot pool was amazing and the pool area looked fantastic .Unfortunately it was way too cold for swimming - ( esp when you're used to QLD weather ) .
I would imagine this area would be great in summer when you can sit on the sun lounges and soak up the sun .

The buffet breakfasts offered the usual selections - it was nice to get proper bacon ( seems to be in short supply at some restaurants in NZ ) .

We had dinner at the hotel restaurant one night. While it wasn't terrible it was not really up to the standard you would expect for the prices they were charging - overall everything was really bland and pretty disappointing . As with most hotel restaurants the wine prices were exorbitant - there wasn't much under $60 a bottle .

The resort is looking a bit on the tired side and in need of a refurb . Saying that we got a great deal with B & B which made it really good value. Yes there are nicer hotels closer to town but they are a lot more expensive than this property .

Bit disappointing that they don't do free wifi in this day and age - first 20 mins free but that goes nowhere .

Overall I would still recommend the Copthorne , just don't do dinner at the restaurant !!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the water .
