We spent a lovely few days here using it as a base to explore the Bay of Islands. There’s plenty of room, well-equipped facilities and a great view over the sleepy little harbour.
The spacious open plan rooms are absolute sun-magnets with lovely big decks so you can bake like a Russell-mussel and watch the boats come and go all day long. The rooms aren’t brand-new but are still in very good shape. You get a bit of noise from the ferries that ply their way back and forth across the channel (grubby old diesel) but you’re so far above it all that it’s really not an issue.
A short ferry-ride to Russell and a short drive to Paihia, this place is well-located if you want to be slightly out of the way but still within range of the local eateries and shops etc. Highly recommended.
We had our rental car broken into while we were in the Bay of Islands (thankfully we only lost some cash and clothing but nothing irreplaceable) - there's a definite bad element/underclass undercurrent in the general area so do make certain you have your wits about you.More
