We stayed here recently with friends who also enjoyed accommodation in a cabin of similar quality. While not glam these are extremely clean, well set out and equipted cabins with everything that you need. It is like staying in an orchard with fruit and avocado trees surrounding the cabins and a lovely warm swimming pool to relax in at the end of a busy day! It was great to be able to use the barbeque to eat "at home", 1 night while good restaurants are a short walk away. Jackie and her husband are excellent hosts.

Within easy walking distance of the centre , the chalets are well equipped, clean and comfortable; however they come at a price near the upper end, and as such are closer together than might be expected, such that you can hear your neighbours TV. With only limited cooking facilities, there are good restaurants nearby such as the Black Olive. The pool is adequate, and the setting amongst the fruit trees is pleasant.
The conundrum was why were the hosts apparently so disinterested and remote - everywhere else in NZ is so welcoming, so the lack of any warmth and local advice was unusual.

Sorry about that - we didn't mean to leave you feeling ignored - we had lots of international guests at that same time, many of whom have written in with very positive experiences. We hope you haven't been put off returning to Kerikeri and New Zealand.

Our stay at Kerigold was very relaxing and peaceful. The chalets are set in a lovely citrus orchard and each one has plenty of privacy for that quiet, chilled out kind of holiday. The chalets were modern, spotless and spacious and only a short walk from restaurants and the town centre. Highly recommended!

We stayed 4 nights in a chalet at Kerigold 5 years ago, and returned for another 4-night stay in December 2007. The property is as well-tended now as it was then. Our chalet had a queen bed in a separate bedroom, bathroom with shower, open living room, dining area, and kitchenette. The self-service, free-standing chalets are private, pleasant, quiet, and located in attractive grounds that have grown more lush since our last visit. Downtown is a few blocks away; a fine bakery with restaurant is next door. A welcome service available to guests is use of the laundry on an honor basis. We looked forward to revisiting the restaurant at Marsden Winery just west of town, and were not disappointed. Lunch and dinner here are superb, and the wine is good, too. We enjoyed equally memorable dinners at nearby Ake Ake Winery. Ake Ake features wines from many vintners, including their own. Try the rose. It's a cut above. The Bay of Islands is a beautiful area. What drew us back most strongly were memories of walking in kauri forests. This time we walked in Puketi Forest, easily accessible from Kerikeri, and drove to the west coast on back roads to walk and picnic again in the 8.35 acre Trounson Kauri Park, an unlogged kauri forest and a refuge for endangered species. Kerikeri is a wonderful base from which to explore the Bay of Islands area.
