Puketotara Lodge
Reviewed April 18, 2013

We had the most relaxing weekend we have ever had starting with the beautiful breakfast of fresh fruit, cereals, scones and perfect poached eggs from the hens in the garden and bacon. Being able to walk around the fabulous grounds and sit down by the river was amazing enjoying the animals and of course Hanna the very friendly black Lab for company on our walks. Then we were treated to the most amazing dinner cooked and served by Mutuso what a talented chef served with a local wine. Mutuso was a wonderful host as well.
We would recomend Puketotara Lodge to everyone and hope we can fit another weekend there again soon.
Excellent !!!

Room Tip: King room with spa bath.

A long weekend with friends was made impeccable by our stay at the lodge. The warm and friendly welcome from the moment we arrived to our much too soon departure was the best in NZ. The extensive breakfast of fresh fruit, cereals and then the Bacon and eggs was superb and was then bettered by the sumptuous dinner cooked by Mutsuo.
A great place for contemplation in the quiet delightful grounds. Recommend the lodge with reservations only because if everyone knows it will get too busy. 5 Star rating.

I can understand why people want to live there. We never wanted to leave! But it was the first stop on our two wek tour around NZ so that after three day we were packin our bags either som regret. What can we say? The place - tthe accommodation, the property, the environment - are all superb. Instant relaxation. The hospitality is amazing with Mutsuo in the kitchen and John in the bar and at large. Hannah, the dog, is enchanting. The 6 hole golf course is a great way to pass a bit of time and the putting is particularly interesting.

And then, beyond the borders are KeriKeri and the Bay of Islands where it's possible to pass several days of gentle exercise or more vigorous pursuits ... if you can tear yourself away from the lodge. Decent restaurants and shuttle services are nearby but it's good to have a vehicle to
explore a little more.

All up, we just loved our time at Puketotara and would return in a heartbeat (as they say).

We stay at the cottage at this fantastic Lodge in Kerikeri.Sometimes you feel a bit disappointed when you arrive the accommodation after booking on the websites, but Puketotara Lodge is more than we expected!! The cottage is about 200m away from the main lodge,so,it is very private and we felt like away from our busy life in the real world. The land is big! has vine yard, golf course( I enjoyed hitting balls and also enjoyed beers in my hand !),olive groves, orchard,my kids loved horses and alpacas and the river is stunning!!we had a little picnic on the river bank in the afternoon,my kids enjoyed a bit of swimming too.It was a really good memory for my family in this Summer,Thanks Mutsu,John, and especially Hana the black Lab!! We will definitely come back for our another holiday!!

What a lovely review we are always humbled, Must tell you we had guests here over easter and their 9 year old caught a very healthy 3lb trout in the river off the pontoon. So guess what ive been doing every evening.

To be honest, my first ever stay at a lodge. I can assure anyone reading this, it will not be the last.
Never in all my time travelling have I experienced the fantastic level of hospitality put on by John and Mutsuo, along with Hanna's expertise of making us one of the family.
Mutsuo is indeed the true chief in the kitchen with attention to detail that will make others squirm.
Like the reviewers before me, I don't believe we can offer in print the right words to express my appreciation for the very, very best that can be offered.

Thanks John Matsuo, Hana and family.

Hi Shane and Nicky, Im so pleased you enjoyed your first Lodge experience. When I was flying I learnt to dislike hotels, so when we open PuketotaraLodge it was our vision that we would be everything a hotel Isn't. So we do work hard on the personal touch. Look forward to your next trip. Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review, very much appreciated. We do love getting feedback.

had such a fantastic weekend here. The hospitality is amazing. The animals are such a delight especially Hana! Mutsuo cooked us the most wonderful meal and John was a fantastic host. Foot massage and bbq by the river were real highlights. You don't need to venture out at all, shame we had already booked a couple of meals out. Next time I will make use of the DVD's, CD's and numerous books and stay in this home from home all weekend! Loved it :)

Room Tip: The cottage is a good option for sharing with others and being a bit more private if you want to
