“Better Than Home.”
Reviewed March 1, 2011

This near new B&B is situated just outside town with awesome views and ample easy parking. After a very friendly welcome we were taken to our rooms which were large, spotless and had a superb en-suite. Slept well and awoke to pre ordered breakfast and great service. I can't recommend this place enough with the pool the views, great rooms separate lounge and warm and friendly owners.

Our stay could not have been any better. It was like staying with family and the room was stunning, large, clean and everything that you need is here. It has a little kitchen and washing machine and it was perfect for us and our 9 month old. She had a cot and loved the cow bambi and all the other cows, chickens and ducks. We couldn't have asked for anything better. The service was sensational. So good in fact I am definitely staying in touch with them and we will come again.
Mike and Chris are a wealth of knowledge about the area and the great things this place has to offer.
We can't speak anymore highly of this pristine hideaway on the top of the hill with views to
die for. I feel like I have been a royal for the three days that we stayed at Swallows Ridge.
You have to come here.

The location was the best, a little off the beaten track but worth the drive. Mike and Chris were great hosts who couldn't do enough for us Aussies. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. The view was something else. 180 degrees of The Bays and surrounding farm lands. Christine and Bob.

Swallows Ridge was even better than the online descriptions. It exceeded our expectations in location, cleanliness, friendliness and luxury. The property is a short drive from town and the major attractions of the Bay of Islands, but it is an attraction in itself. It is less than two years old and the views from the rooms, common areas, lawns and pool/gazebo are magnificent. We enjoyed relaxing on our private patio in the evening with our complimentary bottle of wine, whilst our son slept soundly in the spacious room. The pool is perfectly heated, which provided a fantastic entertainment, and was wonderful to come home to after a day out on the bay. Chris and Michael were lovely hosts - helping us plan our onward journey, and cooking delicious breakfasts. We hope we can come back to this welcoming home-away-from-home again someday.

The lovely guests who wrote this review contacted us to tell us that they had made a mistake with the grading for location. It should be 5 but when they tried to edit they couldn't, they were upset about this but could not speak to anyone about it or do anything on line to change it.
However if you read their review it is very clear that they were extremly happy with the location.

Because we arrived at Swallow Ridge in the middle of the night, in bad weather, we were startled to wake up the next day in the most stunning, picturesque surroundings. The building is new, with beautiful decor and finished perfectly. The hosts were lovely and we were overwhelmed by their hospitality. The breakfast was delicious and the homegrown tomatoes some of the best I've had :-) Unfortunately we didn't get a chance to use the heated pool but it is situated at the top of a hill overlooking acres of farmland and water in the distance; it looks just dreamy. Looking forward to going back to Swallow Ridge again under better circumstances and cannot recommend it enough.

Our savious on a dark and stormy night, Swallows Ridge provided more than just shelter during one of the biggest storms to hit the upper North Island in 2011.
With the rain tumbling and the wind howling, the staff at Swallows Ridge went above and beyond to make sure that we were comfortable, safe and happpy after travelling late into the night through the storm.
The rooms were resplendent and when morning broke over the stunning scenery we were blessed with a heartbreakingly beauftiful sunrise which invigorated the soul after Swallows Ridge had restored the spirit.
We really can't recommend Swallows Ridge enough, the staff and hotel were able to take a dreadfully depressing night and turn it into a great, uplifting experience.

We stayed for one impromptu night to escape terrible weather and flooding and received wonderful service and hospitality.

The hosts were so kind to take us poor stranded motorists in at 1am out of the pouring rain and floods!

The house is very beautiful and waking up to that view was amazing. I am very disapointed we couldn't stay longer and I would definitely recommend Swallows Ridge all travellers.
