For our holidays this year we booked quite a bit through grab one. This would be by far the best experience we had through it Could be a .bit of a mission to find in the dark and not knowing the area however the GPS worked a treat.Greeted on arrival to a cosy restaurant, being winter it had a nice warm atmosphere. Proceded to view the menu and wine list. WOW so many things on the menu that I really liked made the choice hard.Settled for the chicken livers and steak for a main.
Chicken livers arrived in a wee pot dish, beautifully presented and they tasted even better than the presentation, if that was possible.
The steak was perhaps the best cooked steak I have ever had.Cooked to perfection, compliments to the chef..I would go back to Ake Ake for shore with out grab one as the meal was certainly worth the cost charged on the menu.

Was a homely feel with great service and food ! The portions could have been better with the fish and desserts but overall it is a great place that we have been to a few times and have not been let down !

We were treated to wine tasting and luncheon at Ake Ake Winery as a shore excursion on a wine maker's cruise on the Marina of Oceania Cruise Line. The ship has a Bon Appetite Culinary Center on board and we were accompanied on this day trip by the Center's Culinary Chef. We were a small group who traveled from the port in Paihia to this winery in the heart of Kerikeri, a furtilen area where grape vines were first planted nearly 200 years ago. We were greeted by the winemaker and chef and given a tour of the vineyard with explanations about Ake Ake's wine making techniques which include "terroir" which produces award winning wines every year. It was a beautiful fall day and the grapes had been picked so we ate outside enjoying a bistro-style restaurant. We first tasted all of the wines produced by the vineyard including Pinot Gris, Viognier ,Sauvignon Blanc, Chambourcins ,Cabernet Merlot Blends and a few other varietals with which we were not familiar. Very generous tastings! Our luncheon included a choice of local fresh fish or lamb, all locally grown vegetables and deserts to die for. Everything was beautifully prepared and served. The pan roasted snapper with capsicum coulis was excellent. The wine flowed and we were all glad that we were not driving! This was the best culinary wine tour we experienced as a ship sponsored shore excursion. In addition to the winery, we stopped at Makana Confections where we sampled hand made chocolates that made your mouth water. All of this on the way inland from Paihia to Kerikeri. It was a delightful day and gave us time at the end to wander around Paihia before the cruise ship set sail. We would highly recommend visiting both of these establishments when you are in the Bay of Islands region of NZ.

My wife and I were part of a large party invited to an evening of dinning by the Bay of Island Veterinary Service's, our hosts Max Newport and Toni Munro, owners of the above.
Venue Ake Ake Vineyard.
A very pleasent evening with finger food starters and local wine from an extensive selection.
Our reccomendation was the Pinot Gris, refreshing and a standout when compared to other Pinots we have tried.
The venue appeared quite small but surprisingly, more than handled our large groupe of 52.
Our dinner consisted of whole Sirlion roast done in honey, Chicken thigh stuffed with a light cheese, lightly grilled smoked Salmon, Roast assorted veges with seperate dish of local assorted greens.
Sweets were to die for, a Peacan pie with local icecream, Brule' with the riche's of chocolate I thought was possible.
The bar, waitressing, presentation, Chef, is all of the highest standeds.
I would certainly return to Ake Ake Vineyard and recommend the venue and meal as a place to remember.

Popped in for a bite and left feeling very satisfied and hands filled with bottles of wine. Having the free wine tasting before the meal was a great idea leaving us to choose what we were having with our meal and what to take home. We chose a lovely outdoor setting , great food, and wonderful friendly service. This place has an ambience so would make it very easy to go back.
