“Peace and Quiet with Very Convivial Hosts”
Reviewed March 28, 2011

We chose this motel for our first trip rediscovering / discovering parts of New Zealand that we wanted to see after four years living in Asia.
Kerikeri was an obvious choice of location being a short three and a half hours comfortable drive from Auckland.
Visiting at the end of March has been another plus as the weather is settled and not so hot and the High Season prices are fast disappearing.
This 3.5 star motel is calm and nestled in an a wonderful abundance of sub tropical foliage and tuis singing in the treetops. The cabin are comfortable and clean and very good value for the price.
The free cookies provided one evening from our amiable hosts were a pleasant surprise!
With free 20Mbs of internet each day and a free continental breakfast special we have felt that we made the right decision to stay here. The motel is close to town and just up the hill from New Zealand's oldest building - Kemp House.
A real plus about Kerikeri is that it has great fruit and vegetables grown locally. The Kerikeri mandarins we have consumed have been simply delicious.
We have had a relaxing three day stay (within striking distance of the far more touristy Paihia) and I would happily recommend this motel to others.

Great quiet location, beautiful grounds, cute separate cabin, host and hostess treated us like family. Wish every place we stayed in NZed was just like Colonial House. We highly recommended it.

The service is impeccable; I felt like I was treated as a guest in the hosts' own home, rather than as a customer. I have stayed in a few hotels and motels in the last few months and feel that this is by far the best one I have stayed in. The room was well appointed and the bed divinely comfortable. The shower pressure was great, and extra towels were available. There was assistance with connecting to the internet, little treats of chocolate or homemade biscuits left each day, and a positive welcoming recption which when combined led to a most pleasurable stay

Had a great stay in a one bedroom unit which was very comfortable and well kitted out.
Just a few minutes walk to main St. and the local sites and walks. Enjoyed sitting outside in the sub-tropical garden enjoying a glass of wine in the evenings. Marvellous hosts Allen and Andrea looked after us so well. Would certainly recommend.

Last week before returning to the UK via LA. We had been away from home for a month and this was to be the longest stay anywhere (6 nights)...seen a few motels on our trip around NZ and the children were really worried but once we got there it was perfect. Accommodation is basic but extremely clean tidy and the hosts are a wonderful couple who make you feel at home. Perfect location walking distance into town and for the supermarket. Pool is small but really adequate with a nice hot tub to just relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. If we make it to NZ again would definitely add to the list of to do's even just to say hi.
