If you are in Martinborough, you'd be hard pressed to miss this place. Well worth popping in for lunch, coffee or a slice of their cake. First visit had THE BEST piece of carrot cake ever had...and have had a few (!!) Second visit, the last slice was just served to another customer ...darn!! But had the passion cake instead...still as delicious!

The decor is very nice, 'trendy' of sorts. The menu is large and lots to choose from. It also has a shop attached where you can buy local wine and olive oils.

Def recommended if you want to take a break, have a cuppa and just...relax.

Really enjoyed lunch with grand children. Good atmosphere and acoustics that allowed you to hear conversation.
Loved the wine shop and art works. Could easily have come away broke so much quality.

Prices are now higher than Wellington and Auckland - $23 for a full cooked breakfast with no coffee.

My companion and I were visiting and decided to stop for breakfast. Order to service took some 45 minutes and the place was barely 30% full so the kitchen was not rushed. As so often in NZ the place appeared to be entirely staffed by children with no evidence of a more mature manager in charge.

I like the Village Cafe but I think it needs to regain the spark it once had.

I ordered a latte and a piece of carrot cake which was sitting on the counter and then had to wait ten minutes for the coffee to arrive despite the cafe being quiet. The Latte was in a small glass and was mostly froth and when I reminded the waitress that I also ordered a piece of cake she replied that it was on its way. of course it arrived when I took my last sip of the coffee, no apologies from the less than cheerful staff. The carrot cake tasted great but being charged $11 for a coffee and a piece of cake is outrageous and raises expectations of the customer to a very high standard which this cafe is unfortunately lascking.

Wine selection good, as you'd expect; service attentive; pasta tasty but helpings are not sized for hungry travelers and short on sauce.
