Ata Rangi has recently had one of the highest rated Pinot Noirs in New Zealand according to Parkers, and I was therefore really looking forward to our visit. The tasting shed is small and was very crowded with small private tours, bicycling tours, and a few couples like ourselves. That said, I thought the staff handled everyone well. My wife liked their dry rose, and I thought their young Pinot Noir "Crimson" was good. However, I was disappointed by the Parker rated Pinot vintage. At $65 a bottle it's in the upper range of Pinot costs (the highest price I saw locally was $72 bottle), but there are other local wineries that in my opinion are producing a better product. It's worth the visit and for the price of the tasting, I thought it was well worth it, just don't set your expectations too high.
