After teaching kids and adult surfing lessons in Perth for more than 30 years, we have seen the long list of obstacles our students have to overcome in order to learn to surf. Our son has attended this surf school on and off for about 5 years. We have loved the relationship he has built up with Keith and the other instructor; they are like one big family!
The key is to be patient, have regular lessons and to be kind to yourself about your own ability. You also need to understand that conditions are unpredictable and accept poor surfing conditions one day, with amazing ones the next - nature is something that can't be controlled.
Our son has gone from surfing on soft boards to being challenged by the waves at places like Lahaina in Hawaii and Cloudbreak in Fiji. What a treat it was for him to be able to mix it up with Carissa Moore in Fiji recently! We can only thank this surf school for giving him the skills and confidence to do this.
We have tried other surf schools throughout the world, but have not been as impressed.
Even though our son has gone through all the levels offered by the school, they still warmly offer him advice and encouragement when they see him down at the beach!

From what I experienced and have heard from others, your experience/enjoyment depends largely on the luck of what instructor you receive. My friends and I unfortunately ended up with one that was mediocre. Did not provide much instruction, and no one in the class made it to standing on the surfboard by the end of the 2.5 hour lesson. Most of the time was spent being beaten down by the waves. Rather disappointing. I was contemplating signing up for a set of lessons, but after this experience I think I will look elsewhere.

Did the 5 week course here once upon a time, and whilst I was pretty useless others got the hang of it!

The staff were always good and would try to"reserve" a section of the beach with their flags. It does get busy on the waves in Scarborough though.
