“Ruined wedding night”
Reviewed January 14, 2007

My husband and I decided to treat ourselves on our wedding night and stay at Observation City.....what a mistake that was!
We organised a spa room with ocean views. We had arranged with the hotel that we would drop off our luggage and car early on our wedding morning and the staff assured us that the it was no problem.
After a magical wedding day we arrive at Ob City just after midnight looking forward to our luxiurious wedding night..... When we get up to our room our bag isn't there. So we call the front desk and they tell us they will bring it straight up for us. 45 mins later no bag so we phone again - they say sorry they are busy and will bring it up now. Half and hour later we get a call asking what our bag looks like. 15 mins after that my husband calls down again and they admit they can't find our bag!! My husband was down stairs with the incompetent staff until 4am (some wedding night) when we finally gave up and just decided we needed some sleep. We found all but one staff member to be rude and unsympathetic to our situation. My husband was also accused of being drunk and incohrent (he had two drinks the whole night).
The next morning at 8am as I was wondering how on earth I was going to get my wedding dress on again to be able to have clothes on to get home we got a knock at the door by a staff member with our missing bag!
When the bag had gone missing the first question we asked was was there another guest with the same surname as ours - supposedly they looked and said no. Surprise surprise where was our bag found - in a room of someone who shared the same last name as us!!

Rendezvous ruined our wedding night for us and we will never go back there again! They certainly do not act like a 5 star hotel!!

Never again would I stay in this dire hotel, the star rating is completely inaccurate and this place would be lucky to get 1 star. The pool area was covered with pigeons and their filth, the entire hotel is well out of date and needs a complete revamp.

We attended a lovely wedding in the Ocean Room at this hotel and stayed overnight. The service, food and surroundings at the wedding were fabulous but the hotel accommodation was very poor. On entering our room we were greeted by a tray of dirty dishes on the rusty table on the balcony - which was filthy. On returning to the room after midnight to have a cup of tea we had no cord for the electric kettle. Had to call reception twice before someone arrived an hour later with a new kettle. In the morning the door was knocked twice by housekeeping - the first time being at 8 am! We will not be staying again!

  • Liked — Bed was good.
  • Disliked — Dirty balcony.
  • Tips/Secrets — Ask to see room before checking in!

we stayed at Ob City for the weekend of our wedding which was held at a venue close by. This hotel has definately past it's best. The rooms are very tired, in need of an update (even though the hotel was supposed to of had a refurbishment recently). Our room was also not very clean. There were dead bugs in the lamp shades and an empty condom wrapper under the bed! Bed was o.k. but only 1 pillow each and no extra pillows in the room. Safety grill was missing from hair dryer in bathroom which made it very dangerous. Left it unplugged to prevent an accident! we were on the 12th floor but could still hear the noise from the pub downstairs. We had breakfast in the Pines on the first morning which was very average. Have had much better in cafe's! We had breakfast in our room the next morning which was better but only just warm. Pool area is also looking tired and dated and with a dead bird stuck in the beams of the pergola! On the plus side, the concierge was very helpful and an asset to the hotel. Other staff we dealt with were also pleasant.

  • Liked — view. (can get that any time though!) staff good
  • Disliked — tired looking rooms/pool area
  • Tips/Secrets — Perth city has lots to offer. Dont stay here just because of the view.

We originally booked to stay at the Hotel for two nights as a special romantic weekend away. We live in Perth. Originally we thought the room was just okay but with a magnificent view. Although recently refurbished not a 5 star standard. We went out to dinner, lovely little restaurant downstairs on the beach strip and had the best seafood platter ever! (Cafe Del Pescatore) Great staff, great service, great food! Upon returning to our room after switching on our room uplight we were disgusted to find it full of dead bugs! Ran a bath and saw what looked like mould growing on the bathroom ceiling. I rang downstairs to reception and we were immediately moved to another room. This room very similar but the view over the carpark and Scarborough rooftops was certainly not appealing. We rang reception again in the morning and after being passed around various extensions finally got the duty manager. His total lack of interest was very disappointing. I advised we were very disappointed and contemplating cutting our stay short as to which he answered "Up to you". We checked out after breakfast. Breakfast okay but concerned over wearing the coffee in my lap.....surely the staff are trained not to lean across customers to pour. Senior management of the hotel chain based in the East were extremely efficient in answering and passing on our concerns until we finally ended up with Hotel Manager of Observation City. Again the service stopped here! Absolutely no interest or follow up. Sir you should take a lesson from the young Japanese lady at your reception desk and your doorman. They could teach you customer focus. This is definitely not a 5 star Hotel...very tired and besides the restaurant outside and the beach absolutely nothing to offer in the way of personal service, indulgence or romance! Saddest thing everyone we speak to agrees!

  • Liked — Checking Out
  • Disliked — The total disregard and lack of service for customers
  • Tips/Secrets — Dont stay here if you are looking for a special moment, comfort and quality.

Just returned from 3 days at this hotel.
Appearance - extremely tired and in need of a complete make-over. Lots of construction on beach front.
Location - nice beach but if the weather is bad like we experienced too far away from any other attractions.
Rooms - clean and tidy in spite of being worn. Beds abit hard.
Rooom Service - inconsistent. Excellent one night, distastrous the next with stale food badly prepared. Crockery, trays, cloches etc in need of a good scrub.
Pool - nice size but surrounded by dirtly poolside furniture. Shocked to see guests consuming copious amounts of beer in glass bottles in the hot tub and not a staff member in sight. An accident waiting to happen - not too mention a lack of duty of care.
If the beach is not your main priority I would give this hotel a miss.
