“spruced up and ready to go again”
Reviewed December 25, 2013

I have never stayed here before so I was surprised this was the first 5 star hotel out of Perth CBD & it had been undergoing a major renovation of all areas.
The rooms and public areas are really looking good and almost complete. The car park still shows just how tired the place must have looked previously.
The rooms mostly seem to have a good beach view, with big glass doors opening onto small decks.
There was no real disturbing noise and the staff were very willing to help.
The bathroom was very modern and appeared spacious but did not have a luxury finish which I think some designers do in an attempt to cut corners and save a few dollars. However the money was still spent on the room but has not achieved the wow factor which this hotel's location and money deserves.
Being directly across the low traffic parking esplanade with new cafes opening up around it's ground level showed just how much this old Dame will be uplifted in the short term.
Of serious concern was first impressions- the gardens at the entry are tiny but in a terrible state- easily fixed and a real let down on arrival.
for an outer suburbs hotel, the $10 charge to self- park our car seemed rather heavy handed given that the lift is in huge need of a refurb and overhaul (as it was out of order on check out) leaving another terrible first and last impression, there was no security in the unrenovated 'dump' of a car park, no gated system to prevent anyone who may be stealing our car from 'just driving out' and to top it off- there is a free public car park at the back entry!

Room Tip: ask for high floor level front ocean facing. End rooms appear to be bigger and offer better views...

Thank you so much for your feedback. We share in your excitement in the development of the Esplanade and surrounding areas of the hotel. Our car park boom gate is currently under repair, and as part of our lift modernisation plan across the entire hotel, the car park lift will be attended to in the near future. We look forward to welcoming you back on your next stay when all the finishing touches and the surrounding area of the hotel will be fully up and running.

My teenage girls and I stayed here Christmas Eve and had the buffet lunch Christmas Day. Room was good .. just a few things let it down such as the bed sheets didn't reach the end of the bed, the view from the balcony was of taped up broken glass windows and the bathroom hadn't been cleaned properly. Pool area was lovely and our room was close by. Most of the windows throughout were in desperate need of a clean though.

On Christmas Day the food was good and plentiful, the only let down was the organisation. The queues for food were really long and you basically had to tackle a waiter to get a drink. We'd nearly finished our food before we were able to flag one down and place an order. It would also have been nice to have been given prior warning we'd be sharing our table with randoms (luckily we had nice randoms on our table !)

The pluses definitely outweighed the minuses though and we would consider this hotel again next Christmas.

I have stayed here many times probably 20x over the past 10 years, and over that time saw it deteriorate from moderately good to terrible. They have spent a lot of money not only on the physical refurb but also seemingly on staff training and facilities. The rooms have always been larger than most but were rapidly becoming tired to terrible. Rooms are now nicely appointed, very comfy and all fittings have been renewed making the whole feel miles better. The aircon is a little noisy but apart from that, not much to complain about. The hotel is quirky in that there are no floors between M and 10, so staying on the 23rd floor was really 14. The hotel has a nice gym and is right on Scarborough Beach. Breakfasts are comprehensive and all up the whole stay was a better than good quality. Keep up the good work,

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor. Sea facing rooms are very nice.

This is a real hit and miss renovation of a Perth icon. We stayed in a club room on the top 25th floor (room 2510). A lot of effort and time has been spent renovating the hotel and club rooms. The bed was fabulous as was the view. I cannot deny that. However, for me, the bathroom defines the room and the quality of your stay. You do not want to feel like you have to walk around in thongs (or shower in thongs) because the bathroom is not up to scratch. Despite a full renovation of the bathroom, there was an old, dirty, yellow stained, significantly scratched spa bath with standing shower. Because there is no seperate shower, you have to stand in the revolting bath to shower, and when you do shower, the water goes all over the outside of the bath and floor!! Funny enough the club room looks very similar to the design of the standard room we stayed in last year at the Crown Metropol (see my review). Except the Crown's bath and the remainder of the bathroom was pure luxury. The Club lounge was ok but the food/canape selection was small. The lounge does have a wide range of free booze (but we don't really drink). Again the breakfast buffet downstairs was nothing to get excited about. Overall left us feeling disappointed on our very special and rare night away from the kiddies.

Room Tip: View from 25th floor is great.

Dear babyg0707,

Thank you for taking the time to review the Hotel and share your feedback. I am glad you enjoyed the refurbished room and of course the view. The Hotel has very small number of Club Rooms that retained the existing Spa baths in order to accommodate the demand we see from our guests. Should you prefer no spa bath next time, we would be happy to make note of this in your reservation and try to allocate you a room more suitable in the future.

Our club lounge canapé offering changes each evening we try to appeal to a broad variety of guests and generously includes a selection of 3 hot and 3 cold items selected by our executive chef daily.

We apologize your stay with us was not up to your expectations and we hope you will consider us again in the future.

We stayed for one night for a Christmas party. I was very impressed with the lobby and check in was prompt. The underground carpark was very hard to find and in desperate need of renovation as mentioned in other reviews but I believe this is going to happen soon...it certainly needs it!
Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable but it was such a shame not to have any chairs on the balcony. What is the point of having a balcony when all you can do is stand on it?!
Also the complimentary wifi was very very slow, in fact we gave up and just used our 3G instead.
The rest of the room facilities were good, nice to have plenty of tea and coffee supplied because many hotels only seem to give you a very limited amount. So very nice to have both a choice, and enough for a couple of drinks each.
The pool area was lovely. We didn't try the pool but sat and had a cocktail enjoying the view over the beach.
Some of the hotel areas do still look tired considering it has had a refurb..there was peeling paint on the wooden pillars around the pool and the pool bar looked quite shabby.
Overall our stay was good and we would definitely come back again, just needs a bit of work and it will be truely excellent.

Thank you for taking the time to review your experience at the Rendezvous Grand Hotel Perth. We are delighted to hear that you were able to take advantage of the many unique amenities the hotel as to offer, including enjoying a poolside cocktail, our colimentary wi- fi.
We are disappointed that you experienced a slower than normal internet connection. We offer complimentary internet to all guest up to 256 kb, however should your browsing require a faster connection this can be purchased through our front desk at any time during your stay.

As I’m sure you can appreciate, the renovation is an ongoing process and areas such as the car park will not be overlooked. We thank you for your kind feedback and look forward to welcoming you to the hotel again very soon.

We enjoyed five nights at this Scarborough hotel. Hotel is located in the centre of this sleepy Perth suburb. Very close to beach (several shark alerts whilst we were staying). Staff extremely helpful particularly our cleaner on floor 24. Free internet. Decent pool area, good pool with waterfalls. Pool bar. Large rooms with great views of the beach - could see all the way to Fremantle. Nearby supermarket and fast food outlets, great restaurant Sandbar, close by for breakfast and dinner. Like the size of in room fridge which meant we could buy lunch rolls and make up in room, saving a little along the way. Australian prices compare with UK, maybe a little more expensive but this is a holiday town. Rendezvous can be recommended. Thank you for the room upgrade! Hotel has some reasonably priced eateries too.

Room Tip: High floors equal great views

This is a nice hotel that needs a little attention to make it great.
The location is wonderful, but the hotel needs some good management. It is the small things that make a big difference.
The good things: location wonderful, nearby shops bars, restuarants and beach.
The rooms are large and comfortable.
Needing improvement: I booked a sea vie room and requested a high room. Their idea of a sea view is me goin onto my balcony and craning my neck to the left, what I saw when I looked out of my window was a garage forecourt (see picture)
The internet is free, but the slowest I have ever experienced. Only one lift to the garage works and the gym equipment needs upgrading.
Hopefully mamagement will read this and make the changes as I really like the hotel and will be back.

Room Tip: Ask for a high room, their version of the 12th floor is actually the 3rd floor. Ask for upper twenti...

Thank you for your feedback on your most recent stay with us. As a management team we closely examine all of our feedback and use this to continuously improve our products and services.

We have reviewed the information we have in your reservation and can see that you have booked one of our superior rooms and made a request for both ocean views and a high floor. Superior rooms offer value for money and are located on the lower 4 levels of the hotel. Our team did their best to accommodate your request by allocating a room on the highest level that our superior room category can offer. We are disappointed to hear that your view did not meet expectations, and we would encourage you to try one of our Deluxe or Club rooms located higher levels of the hotel on your return to Perth.
