“Good Value for Money”
Reviewed July 21, 2011

Perth hotels are overpriced generally, prices being hiked up by the current mining boom. This hotel charges much less than most of the competition with similar facilities - and you pretty much always get a great view!
We have styed here about 8 times over the years. The hotel is due for refurbishment, but for the price it still represents great value. Always warm (or cool) and comfy - right on the beach with the best pool in Perth (for sure). Restaurant downstairs does a pretty good buffet breakfast and things usually run pretty smoothly, although the key cards for the car park never really work properly, you can alway buzz upstairs to get out.
Service can be a bit dodgy at the front desk, we seem to often get a trainee that is fairly clueless! Problems are usually resolved fairly quicky though.
Bottle shop downstairs to top up your mini bar (everybody does this, go on, admit it!) and loads of restaurants downstairs and not too far from Freo or Perth city.
We must love it, we just keep on coming back!

Room Tip: This hotel often features on last minute mystery and secret room deals. Follow the clues and save!

Fantastic location right on the beach at Scarborough, but if you are looking for value for money then forget this one. The rooms are in real need of an update, stains on the carpet, chipped tiles in the bathroom and the TV was lucky if it was 50cm big. no WIFI or internet connection in rooms. Staff that we dealt with were friendly and helpful, especially when I realised i had left my suitcase keys at home!!!!
The room was clean and the bed comfortable but with a king size bed why would you only have three pillows on it! There were none spare in the wardrobe as with most hotels, but when mentioned to housekeeping the next day they did provide another for us. Also the mattress protector was only a double or queen size and did not go anywhere near covering the mattress.
Just disappointing when you spend so much on a room ($450) for three nights and the room is just lacking that special touch. Just very tired and in need of a major overhaul, but, as I said great location and having the Dome cafe in the hotel complex was great to get a coffee or breakfast ,at a reasonable price.

I was booked into this hotel by an organisation for whom I was doing some work in Perth. It was an odd choice for a business stay, located a long way from the city centre. the hotel itself seems to be trying to be quite grand, but the fixtures and fittings, both in public areas and rooms, have seen better days. On the plus side, my room was large and clean, my bed was comfortable and the food I ordered from room service was good quality. A lack of internet access in my room was extremely strange and made for a frustrating business trip.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a beach side room

After a not so great experience at an apartment in downtown Perth we ended up here and for value for money this place met all my expectations. My husband, myself and our two children aged 4 and 2 stayed in a club level room. The room while nicely appointed, was showing its age, the door to the mini bar cabinet was broken, the glass door on the wardrobe was off its track and there was peeling paint on the bathroom ceiling. The room itself however was clean and the view spectacular. The club level breakfasts were great and even though we had the option of eating at the restaurant downstairs we liked the intimate atmosphere of the club level lounge much better. Plus the staff both down in the lobby and upstairs were fabulous, with a special mention going to Jay in the club lounge! This hotel is past its prime but I believe the price we paid was spot on and I have to say I loved its quirkiness!

Stayed here for a work conference and the location on the beach at Scarborough was nice. Scarborough itself has very little in the way of restaurants and entertainment which is a surprise unless there are secret restaurants that appear in the summer time? Anyway, the hotel itself would have been a 5 star place when it first opened, probably 30 years ago. However it appears that very little (if any) money has been spent on it since it first opened. For example, the bathroom ceiling was badly peeling and although the main room appeared to have been painted in the last 10 years, behind furniture (the bed) paint was peeling there as well !! The pedal bin the bathroom was broken, the handbasin had a big crack in it and the shower tiles had very visible and extensive mould. The room was also quite cold and no manipulation of the temperature control made any difference at all. Despite staying for 5 nights, there was no replacement of tea or coffee supplies. Also, my favourite bug bear is bottled beer that needs a bottle opener and no bottle opener anywhere to be seen in the room !!!

Interaction with staff was disappointing and customer service was lackadasical - there was very much a 'take it or leave it' feel. It may be no 1 out of 5 on Trip Advisor but I can only imagine this is due to a serious lack of competition. One bright note is that I met a manager of some sort in a lift and he advised the hotel was about to spend 50 million dollars on renovating starting in August. If I were contemplating staying again, it would only be after these extensive renovations.

Room Tip: Up high and an ocean view (quite spectacular)

Very odd hotel - it seemed as if it was probably quite a high class hotel at one time but it is very dated and rather in need of a re-fit. It feels like you're staying in a business hotel located in a quiet shopping centre.
We went in the Australian wnter and, whilst day temperatures were pleasant, at night we were seriously cold.
We had a balcony room - quite high up, overlooking the sea, and the views of the sea and the sunsets were very pretty - however, it was so windy and cold that you couldn't bear to be on the balcony for more than a few minutes. It also didn't feel very safe, and I certainly wouldn't take children out there.
The rooms aren't very secure, and the cleaners actually left ours unlocked on one occasion. The hotel was very quiet, great for sleeping, but not so great when I walked back to the room on my own a few times - TOO lonely.
The staff were lovely however, polite, friendly and very helpful.
The only meal we took in the hotel was breakfast - which was a bit lacklustre. There's a nice café across the road which was much better for breakfast and light meals.
