“Great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 5, 2012

Stayed in a first floor room for two nights. I booked an Executive Room and was very suprised by the size of the room. When booking it was noted that the room had no view, however I could see the beach from the room. Room was clean and comfortable. I ordered room service and delivery was prompt and the food was great. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful.

Only minor issues were that the shower leaked and practically flooded the floor, also would be goot to have curtains on the windows. My room overlooked the pub next door and wasnt overly private.

When in WA I generally stay in Perth, but Ocean Beach Hotel is much better value for money and I will definitely stay there again. The location is fantastic, but a car is required.

Please bring bleach and scrubbing brush.

I have stayed in some pretty bad hostels but this hotel has the worst showers I have ever seen. When I asked for the shower to be cleaned the housekeeping manager advised that the tiles where never sealed and they could do nothing about it as they have tried everything, as I was staying for 3 days (already prepaid otherwise I definitely would of gone elsewhere) I went and bought household bleach and scrubbing brush and cleaned the shower myself which got rid of every stain. ( have the before and after photos) The rooms are dusty, carpet worn, which is really disappointing as the receptionist is lovely, polite and very happy to assist (rare find these days) the views lovely and room service meals of good quality.

But you just can not get over the disgusting shower area. If you are going to stay here bring things to wear in the shower as before I cleaned the shower, my feet where sticking to the shower floor.

Also agree with previous reviewer definitely not a peaceful place to stay on a Sunday night.

There are not many hotels in Cottesloe but this one is right on the magnificent beach (or at least right across the road from it). This is an older hotel and the rooms show their age, however they are quite large so there is plenty of room to spread out. Room rates are high but you can find some deals on the Internet if you are patient. Some reviewers have noted how easily noise travels in the hotel, and this is certainly true, but if you get a room at the end of a hallway (e.g. room 112) you will not be bothered. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Food at the hotel is expensive but there are plenty of restaurants nearby. There is also an IGA within easy walking distance, and this is a good place to pick up supplies for a picnic on the beach. This is the real reason to stay in Cottesloe - the beach is long and wide and you can walk for miles. There is a small nude beach area a little north of the hotel so be prepared!

There is a bus stop right across the street from the hotel and it is a quick ride into Perth bus station where you can catch a bus to the airport. You can also walk to the train and take it into Fremantle where there is good shopping and dining.

Room Tip: Rooms at the end of the halls will be quieter. Don't pay extra for a room facing the water...

Stayed a couple of nights in a 4th floor room. Room was large and clean and the bed was comfortable. Yes..the place looks a bit tired but the staff are friendly and the location is fantastic. I'd give the bar/restaurant next door a miss and use the cafe's across, or up and down the road instead. If you need to eat in, there is an IGA around the corner and up the hill. Overall...good value (particularly for Perth) in a great location. Be aware that there is a building site immediately next door on the south side. There was no work on it while I was in house but if there was, I'd be guessing that there might be some noise in the southside rooms...might be best to check before booking.

I have been willing to overlook the shortcomings of this hotel because it is right on the beach front at Cottesloe and it has some good restaurants within walking distance. You could get a cheap spacious room on Wotif and not notice that no maintenance has been done within living memory and everything is looking very down at heel. However after our stay last night (Sunday) I have to say I will never book this hotel again. Firstly their rates have gone up but nothing has changed, the bedside lamp didn't work and when I tried to ring down to reception to complain about the noise (more about that later) the phone conveniently for them didn't work. If you must stay here do not stay on a Sunday night. The Sunday session goes until 10pm and is so loud that our room vibrated with the noise, don't bother turning up the TV loud because you still won't hear it. The had the worst kind or rave/disco with a screaming DJ and thumping predictable singalong music at make your ears bleed sound levels. At 10 magically the music stops then you get the crowd reluctantly moving off, drunks vomiting etc and this is supposed to be one of the better suburbs of Perth. This is the same hotel where recently a man was bodily thrown through a plate glass window on the 2nd floor bar and died.

Room Tip: Up the front and on the far side of the hotel away from the bar and disco

Above average but whilst the rooms were large and comfortable the hotel is a little tired. The reception staff are very friendly and helpful. Fantastic views above level two. Beautiful patrolled beaches across the road from the hotel. Be aware of the sudden deepening of the surf. Cafes and restaurants are a plenty and easy walking distance north or south of the hotel. CBlue restaurant next door has an excellent menu at affordable prices and friendly waiting staff. Fremantle is a short distance south of the hotel.

Room Tip: Any room above the 2nd level will give you ocean views. Rooms on the south side are quieter.

Wonderful location, across the road to the beach, with lots of nice cafes and some good restaurants a short walk away. I stay here annually and it is very convenient.

There is an IGA along the road a bit and the pub below is good for a party and has a backpackers out the back if you are looking for somewhere cheaper.

The train into Perth runs every 15-20 minutes and the station is a 5 minute drive, or a 15 minute walk, I guess.

Tip with the rooms - they are numbered from the beach to the back, so room 111 is on the first floor, on the end away from the beach. The odd numbers face North and the even numbers South. So Rooms 601 and 602 are, I think, the top floor closest room to the beach. The rooms do face side on, but obviously the closer to the beach end, the better the view up and down the beach, same for the higher floors having the better views. More expensive rooms tend to have the better rooms.

Room Tip: The higher floor, lower number have the better views. Room number is floor + room eg 6th floor, roo...
