“Moody, unhelpful staff, average accomodation”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

First off when I arrived I was told my booking was for the wrong day and that they had no room for me and my partner in a dorm. The only room they had 'apparently' was a double which was twice the price we were originally expecting to pay. I was then told there was no room for me to stay anywhere in the hostel for the rest of the week....only the next day when checking out they were giving new guests rooms....
Staff were unhelpful and unfriendly...really moody when querying them. Didn't tell us that a $10 deposit was required for cutlery & dishes, so spent a lot of time searching the kitchen for mugs e.t.c. The aircon in our room also didnt work...not what you want after being forced into the room in the first place!
Hostel itself was clean enough but overpriced...however being the only backpackers in Cottesloe I guess they can do as they please. If it wasnt for the staff my stay would have been much more pleasent

Really easy going hostel and staff always happy to help. Great location about 5 mins to the train station, bus stop on the doorstep and 2 mins away from the beach and supermarket. Great atmosphere in the hostel with a really friendly environment. Rooms are spacious and ensuite. Kitchen is slightly small but only tends to get busy for about an hour at tea time. Shifts are available to clean the kitchen for free accommodation. Nice burger and chips from the take away next door for $11 for nights when you can't be bothered cooking :-).

This was the 1st hostel I stayed in, in Australia and still ranks as my favourite. It's a road crossing from the beach, right next door to the OBH and it's epic Sunday sessions. The town of Cottesloe itself is really nice and about halfway between the city and Freo. The kitchen is small but has plenty fridge and storage space. The kitchen even has an oven which is a rarity in Australian hostels. There is a good lounge area with foxtel and sofas, a tv for gaming, vending machines etc. There is also a movie room filled with tv series and movies. The hostel is right next door to a cafe offering a decent burger deal for backpackers. There is an internet lounge, and a cupboard full of footballs, volleyballs, bats etc, surfboards, boogie boards all for free hire. (well leave your room key as deposit). Free wednesday sausage sizzle in the court yard and a free to use BBQ ($10 deposit for gas cylinder and utensils). Great if you have a car as there is a mass of parking space.

The court yard does shut at 11, whilst unfortunate for socialising, completely necessary. And everyone used to just run down to the beach and sit around a guitarist with a box o goon. There are a lot of long termers, and I became one myself as it is really easy to find yourself just setting up camp for 3-4 months here

Bedrooms are ensuite and all spacious. Good storage space.

I miss Njamba!

If I was going back to stay in a hostel in the Perth area I'd be disappointed if I stayed anywhere else.

Room Tip: The best rooms are those facing away from the courtyard. Sound travels pretty easily and not always...

I stayed one night in the female dorm. The room was very messy, smelly and dirty, shower room is also dirty. I was hardly to staying in the room cuz of that. They give me the blanket, bed sheet and pillow, which are so smelly and I think it wasn't washed after the previous usage. This is not the only dorm I stayed at during my holiday in Perth, but this surely is the worse. Positive point for this hotel is only a helpful & friendly staffs.

I stayed at this backpackers for 5 weeks and loved it. The location is incredible if you enjoy the beach as it is lyterally on your door step. The train station is a little bit of an effort to walk to but not too bad, its a good 15-20 minute walk, but there are bus stops outside the hostel.
The kitchen facility is good enough, the movie room has foxtel tv with aircon and all the movies you could want!
I shared a dorm with 8 of us ( including myself ) , the beds are abit umcomfy but you get used to them. The bathroom was clean and the shower was good and strong powered, was very happy with this. If you like drinking and socialising this is the place to be because most ( every ) night people are downstairs in the communal courtyard drinking and blasting music, the courtyard does close at 11pm though so you can still get some sleep.

This hostel is FULL of long termers though and there can / was a cliquey vibe when i was there as there are alot of close groups and it can sometimes be intimmidating and bi**chy. It is also FULL of drama, everybody knows everything about everyones business, who they are hooking up with etc, quite funny really but annoying when its your business.

You will also find that the dorms are very full with clothes and food as people actually do live here!!! Some people will like this , some people wont. The management is quite poor also. Some of the staff had favourates and treated them better then the other guests or were less strict with what they did so that wasnt great, they are quite strict but sometimes ridiculously strict by kicking people out for silly reasons.

Overall i would reccommend this hostel 100% to stay if you come to Perth it is really good! I loved my time here!

Room Tip: Go in a mixed dorm!!! girls rooms are boring. but either way , the rooms from 12-28 on that side are...

I have rated this place 'poor' and not 'terrible' as it was close to the beach, had a fridge and kettle in the private room and the shower was decent.

The room is grubby, dubious stains on the walls etc. The hostel has signs saying no alcohol, no noise after 11pm etc but these are ignored and the hostel residents, not tourists start the music at lunchtime and play it as loud as they like until the early hours. As well as general rowdy drunk behaviour and leery men. I would advise female travellers to avoid, I was asked by one man if 'I was here alone'.

There was no management there for the 3 days we stayed.

If you like this behaviour it may suit you, otherwise stay elsewhere. I recommend Fremantle, much nicer than Cottesloe

Room Tip: avoid room 4, it is above the courtyard where all the partying happens

The service is very good!!!! The staff are very helpful and nice. The location is good because it's close to the beach.
But the bedroom and bathroom are horrible! People lived this hostel. I've never seen something like that!!!! Clothes and foods everywhere!!!!
