Yering Gorge Cottages
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed April 22, 2014

We were looking for the cottage and drove to a wrong road - gps error. Apparently, yering gorge cottage is through a dirt road - about 2-3 mins drive given that our sedan cannot drive really fast on dirt road and there might be kangeroos and animals around as well.

We arrived half hour earlier but was promptly brought to our cottage.

The lovely lady came by and showed us the cottage. Informed us that there will be daily papers at our door step as well as fresh bread every couple of days. There is a complimentary bottle of red wine as well as a breakfast basket filled with loads - fruits, cereal, Jams. Milk and butter were provided.

They have a BBQ pit just at the balcony. We didn't have time to BBQ anything.

In the evenings, there were load of wildlife. we saw many kangeroos hoping around. Huge bunnies. Many type of birds. It is actually a nice walk around the area. Just be aware of the kangeroo poos all around the grass patch.

It is extremely quiet place. Love it. Would love to come back again.

Hi Eittus,

I am extremely pleased you had a great time here at Yering Gorge Cottages and thank you for posting such a great review. It was also pleasing to see that you had a chance to walk around and enjoy the native wildlife as well explore the many wineries and fruit farms nearby. I hope next time you visit, you will be able to sit on the balcony and have a good old Aussie BBQ, whilst you watch the Kangaroos grazing in front of you. We are looking forward to welcoming you and your family back soon.

Regards,

Ross Stevens

Let me start my review by stating that our original reservation was for only one night. Upon arrival and check-in it took us absolutely no time to decide we wanted to stay for at least another night and were on the phone changing our reservations in Melbourne immediately. This says a lot about this place because we NEVER make changes like this. I am a meticulous planner and this choice was easy once arriving.

Many of the cottages appeared to be empty during our mid-week stay. We had read about the golf course construction but only noticed some faint noise far off in the distance during the day. If you are out during the day exploring (as we did) and spending most of your mornings and evenings at your cottage you will barely notice the construction noise. I can't recommend enough staying at the "Waterfall cottage" it is the most secluded in my opinion as it sits at the end of the range. We were very excited to view the wildlife and it did not disappoint. Roo's (including two white ones) grazed in and around our cottage in the evening till well after sunset. Both evening we did nothing more then eat, drink and enjoy the scenery while we watched the kangaroos do there thing. We also saw two deer (the adult was blowing at us) during a walk down by the river.

The cottages offer everything you need to cook your meals and provided plenty of space (the bathrooms were huge). They were just modern enough for our taste and everything appeared very well maintained and very clean (which is very important to us). The hosts were excellent and we enjoyed chatting with them on a few occasions about the property and the kangaroos (I learned a few things!)

There is not much I would improve on here, the only thing i would have liked would be a pair of lounge chairs (like an Adirondack chair) for the outdoor porches. There are a table and chairs for dining at each cottage but we ended up spending so much time sitting out there it would have been great to have lounge chair - this won't be a problem for most people and really doesn't take away anything from the experience.

We are already thinking about our next trip back to Australia and how we can plan a trip to Yering Cottages in the future - we will be back at some point.

Room Tip: Waterfall cottage is the last cottage on the "range" best kangaroo viewing.

Hi Caleb,

“Wow” now this is what I call a review. Just as I have mentioned to Katy W from Colorado, it is just fantastic to see that our guests from the United States really enjoy the wildlife and the Australian setting here at Yering Gorge Cottages.

I can imagine that the scenery here at Yering Gorge Cottages is completely different from what you have at home in Arizona, so I am hoping your memories of our cottages, the Australian landscape and the wildlife will stay in your thoughts until we see you back here in the not too distant future. Caleb thanks again for your great review.

We traveled throughout Australia and this was our last stop. What a perfect way to end our trip. The cabins are modern and beautifully decorated and equipped. I loved that they were set apart, making it feel like you were almost all alone. It was an amazing experience to encounter the kangaroos all around our cabin and in the woods on the walks around the property. Sharon was welcoming and very helpful in arranging our activities, such as a wine tasting tour and lunch recommendations. Be sure to stop in the butcher, located near the grocery store. His meats were outstanding and we bought something everyday to cook on the barbeque on the deck of our cabin while we watched the kangaroo. My only regret is that the Yering Gorge Cottages were closer so I could return often.

Hi Katy W,

Thank you, firstly for posting such a fantastic review about Yering Gorge. I think the most pleasing part of your review is that we were your last stop here in Australia and that you both really enjoyed your stay. I will certainly be passing on your best wishes to Rod our local butcher.

Katy, we hope that your fellow Americans read your review, as both Sharon and I think your description of Yering Gorge is “spot on”, Yering Gorge is the Perfect Australian Getaway. I do hope that you will be back to Australia soon and we are looking forward to catching up with you here again.

Based on the web site we expected these cottages to be fabulous and they were! We travelled with kids (six and four) so my choice in booking these cottages was based on how family friendly they looked. We were very comfortable in the two bedrooms and the cottage has everything you could ask for a family stay. The elec blankets were a nice touch as it did get cold at night and the kids loved getting into a warm bed. The other reason I booked this place was the promise of local kangaroos and they were indeed all over the property just grazing outside your balcony or window all the time, this was such a treat for the kids. The location is good, close to all attractions. You will see the construction site for the new golf course on the way in, but we did not notice it once we settled in. The scenery is just magical. The warm welcome from the Manager, Ross set the tone for a lovely stay. We will be back.

Hi Samuisurfer,

It is very satisfying for all of team at Yering Gorge Cottages that your recent break with us lived up to your expectations. Of course we can't take all the credit for the local star attractions (Kangaroos), however we do take pride in that our cottages were exactly as you had hoped they would be.

Once again thanks for taking a the time to post your review, and I looking forward to seeing you and the family back soon.

What a find! Hidden back from all noisy roads and on an expansive property, the cabins are well appointed, contemporary and spacious. We were very impressed and the welcome by Ross was just as pleasing. The cabins are set well apart from each other so you are not looking at each other if you choose to sit on your veranda and drink wine whilst looking at the kangaroos that roam the property. We even had them greet us on the path on the way in.

The cabins/cottages are just lovely. So nicely done with attention to detail.

We stayed overnight to do hot air ballooning. I usually wouldn't stay in the Yarra Valley as I only live about 40 mins from there, but I will definitely stay there again and next time, make it two nights so I can enjoy all the cabin/property has to offer.

Well done Ross and Sharon!

Hi HonestBonest,

We really appreciate you taking the time to write your review and noticing the detail that our staff have put into our cottages. I often mention to our guests that you don't have to travel for miles to find a relaxing getaway like Yering Gorge Cottages, sitting on your deck, sipping on some Yarra Valley wine and watching the Kangaroos go by.

We are looking forward to seeing you soon.

This is a very special place to stay! Super cottages, kangaroos bouncing through the gardens and amazing birds in the surrounding trees. The golf course development in no way detracted from the experience of visiting here and will eventually, no doubt, enhance the venue as a destination. The receptionist who checked us in was very helpful and informative about everything in the surrounding area. A special and unexpected touch in the cottages was electric blankets on the beds, which was a welcome addition for a slightly chilly autumn evening.

Hi Sue L,

Thank you for taking the time post your review. It is pleasing that our staff have made sure you were well aware of all of the fantastic things to see and do around the Yarra Valley. You are right we do have some cooler nights this time of year, so to know the electric blanket came into use is great.

Sue your comments on the golf course are also very welcome, as we believe that in the coming months not only will our private nature reserve and river frontage be an asset but the new Greg Norman Golf Course and the facilities will also be a draw card for visitors from around the world. We hope to see you back soon at Yering Gorge Cottages.

Yours Sincerely.

My husband and I stayed at Yering Gorge Cottages early February for our 1st wedding anniversary. We were shocked to see as we arrived a large construction area! When we finally made it to reception (the driveway was dug up and there were diggers around) we enquired with reception what the deal was, they said it was a great new golf course being constructed next door. It wasn't such great news for us, our cottage looked over the construction area and we were woken up by machinery at 7am in the mornings.

I was surprised nothing was mentioned on their website, nor were we emailed to be informed. If we had known we wouldn't have stayed, and I would have expected some form of discount for the disruptions, however none was recieved. When mentioning to the staff that we were surprised and disappointed they kept mentioning how great it will be and how it won't affect us. The view and the noise definitely did affect us and ruined our experience.

Other than the construction and noise, the cottage was fantastic. Yering Gorge Cottages were great with my gluten free breakfast request and the cottage was lovely, especially the spa bath. However I wouldn't recommend Yering Gorge Cottages due to the fact that they didn't inform us about the construction going on which affected our stay and put a dampener on our 1st anniversary.

Hi Hayley W,

Thank you for posting your review, we do value all of our customers feedback good or bad. It is important for us to improve and learn from past mistakes and guest feedback. I am sorry that your stay in early February was not as you hoped, we have endeavored minimise any impact that the construction of the new course may have had on our customers. The impact on our guests in now minimal with the construction area closest the the cottage precinct now finalised and fairways have been turfed, and as you would expect our resident kangaroos are loving this!

Hayley, it was pleasing to see that you enjoyed the spa in the cottage and the cottage itself. I am not sure whether you and your husband managed to walk through the 12kms of trails through our nature reserve or along the river, as I am sure this may have changed your thoughts about your experience here at Yering Gorge. I do hope we get another chance to see you back here, once the new course is finished.

Should you wish to discuss further, please do not hesitate to contact me directly at the Yering Gorge Cottages office.

Regards,

Ross Stevens
