From the moment we arrived at Chateau Yering we felt like we were in a different world. The House is pure elegance, the grounds magnificent and the staff were amazing. Our room was absolutely beautiful and so well appointed. Loved the french doors opening onto the verandah with table and chairs, enjoying coffee and champagne whilst taking in the incredible views. The well appointed marble bathroom with claw foot bath and luxurious toiletries complemented the sophisticated suite. Dinner in Eleonore's was incredible, every course a delight and extremely attentive staff. Attention to detail was evident everywhere. The ambience of this grand hotel made our weekend extra special. What an amazing experience, we will certainly be back!

Shortly returned from Chateau Yering. Unfortunately, was not impressed. Had looked forward to this stay but when compared with other five star establishments have stayed at this was over priced for what one gets. Would not rate above a four star max.

Our room was large and comfortable but becoming shabby. Having the jug and tea/coffee makings located over the bidet was rather off putting. A tray on room table would be more pleasant. Small TV. Gowns were too small for large man.

Laundry trollies left in the upstairs corridors not only spoilt the look, they could be a hazard in an emergency.

Too be really picky the mattress was rather 'squishy' and became very hot at night. In fairness that's probably a personal preference.

The balcony had lovely views, however the cheap furniture did not become a five star establishment.

The car park is a long way from reception, OK if you are young and fit but if not it can be a struggle. The advertised valet parking failed to eventuate. Struggling through the lunch time stragglers in the restaurant is also rather strange.

The lounge whist comfortable and well located was dirty. Muddy footprints from the rear garden remained on the floor for over 24 hours. Remains of afternoon tea in form of crumbs, spilt tea/coffee and marks on a table were left by staff and evening drinks placed on same tables. Arms of chairs have frayed, tattered material and a recover is badly needed.

Meals:

Dinner. Excellent steak but over priced. Long wait for cheese trolley, almost half an hour. Had to ask for it twice. Generally dining room and meal were best aspect of hotel. A meal here is recommended. Good wine list too.

Breakfast though was a different matter. Paper napkins do not belong in a five star establishment, especially with linen ones set at lunch tables next to the tables at which one is invited to sit for breakfast.

The English breakfast was outstanding in quantity but spoiled by burnt toast under the greasy fried eggs. The omelette was so hard and flat that it appeared as if it had been pre prepared. Probably not,but again, this quality did not belong in a five star establishment. Continental was rather limited.

Many of these issues have been canvassed in earlier reviews and yes, agree totally. It is such a shame. A real pity as the basics are all in place, great location, wonderful venue but does not live up to reputation. More attention to detail more staff training and the investment of a few dollars in an upgrade would do wonders.

We have not long returned from a lovely week in the Yarra Valley, staying at Chateau Yering. It was a great experience, understated elegance, helpful friendly staff, wonderful food, super comfy bed and nothing was too much trouble.
From our first contact in booking, to when we checked out, it was a thoroughly good experience. We would unhesitatingly go back, and that is the true test.

If you enjoy a bit of luxury, then Chateau Yering ticks all the boxes. It’s Olde Worlde without being stuffy. Let the historic building, the traditional décor and heritage gardens seduce you away from the modern and contemporary interiors our eyes have become so accustom to; drift back in time and enjoy the open fires, breath-taking views, history and heritage of this grand old residence. All the accommodation are suites; we had a River Suite which was larger than most studio apartments but if you want total indulgence, consider the Stable Suites which have 4 poster beds and open fires. Very comfy beds, huge bath tub, separate shower, posh toiletries and enormous balcony. Nice touches include a complimentary daily paper, turn-down service, mini-fridge and DVD library. Continental breakfast was smaller than in some hotels but the cooked breakfast kept us going all day. The elegant Eleonore’s Restaurant is a beautiful room for dinner, but with so much competition at the wineries, you have a huge choice of high quality restaurants for a Saturday night dinner. We didn’t want to drive and as it was a stormy night, we were happy to dine in. Once they got the order right, the main courses (steak & fish) were good, the cheese trolley was amazing and all accompanied by a very impressive wine list. Le Chateau is by far the plushest place in the Yarra . Go on - spoil yourselves!

Chateau Yering is definitely our style of Country House Hotel blending the elegance of bygone days but with “modern charm” – sophisticated and indulgent.

Our first floor suite was beautifully furnished with king sized bed (very comfortable) with great views from the large balcony. The marble ensuite complete with a deep claw-foot bath and separate shower with large rain head – Molton Brown toiletries.

This historic house has great tastefully decorated public rooms. We enjoyed a glass of wine in front of the magnificent open fire in the Drawing Room, very peaceful and relaxing.

We had dinner in Eleonore’s Restaurant – sorry that should be DINING EXPERIENCE and I strongly recommend this restaurant.

The food was magnificent and the best we have had in a long time. All three courses were truly magnificent and the additional amuse-bouche, pre-dessert and petit fours completed the dining experience. The only disappointment was that unfortunately I could not manage the cheese course which included some of my favourite cheeses.

All the dining staff should be commended for a great team effort.

Breakfast in the Sweetwater Café was a leisurely affair with cold buffet and fully cooked breakfast (to order) much better than queuing for the overcooked eggs etc as per other hotel buffet breakfasts.

Staff throughout our stay were extremely professional and attentive, for example when we were sitting in the drawing room we were asked if we wanted the fire lighting and even though we were the only two in the room they did so with pleasure.

Cannot recommend Chateau Yering, including Eleanores Restaurant, highly enough and will be back for certain.

Room Tip: I am sure all rooms at Chateau Yering are good rooms.

My husband booked Chateau Yering as a surprise for our 25th Wedding Anniversary.
It was perfect. The staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgable about anything we required.
Eleanor's was a delight. The most beautiful food, fine local wines and the presence of the room itself.
As for our room, I wanted to take the bed home, it was that comfortable.
We finished this wonderful experience with a beautiful breakfast at Sweet Water the next morning.
Thank you for making our anniversary such a wonderful occasion. The experience of Chateau Yering reflected the importance of our anniversary.
